Oh, soap Jesus help us! Haven't we lost enough already? 'General Hospital' made enough casting mistakes this past year to add another one and the worst one of them all at that. First, viewers lost the character of Hayden Barnes when Rebecca Budig was given her walking papers and we had to come to grips with the sweet romance between Hayden and Finn (Michael Easton) coming to an end. Despite fans' efforts with petitions and Twitter campaigns, Budig has not been rehired by the show.
And then we lost a Quartermaine. Robert Palmer Watkins was also given his walking papers and exited the role of Dillon Quartermaine. He too had a budding and interesting romance with Kiki Jerome (Hayley Erin). He was also a part of a core family with major potential and the show decided to let him go. Despite fans losing Jane Elliot (Tracey Quartermain) who chose to go into retirement, the show still went ahead to rid the canvas of Dillon. While fans started Twitter campaigns, created petitions, emailed and messaged show executives - their cries were never heard, or at least if it was, action was never taken.
Now come reports that Ryan Paevey will be exiting his role as Nathan West soon. This time however it is said that it was his choice to leave the show. But, could the show have done something to keep the actor around? That may be a question we will never have an answer to.
Talk about a classic trainwreck! The show had a great story going for Parker (Ashley Jones) and Kristina (Lexi Ainsworth) who became a hit with fans. We clearly saw their level of popularity not only as a couple but also as individual actors who have topped our charts numerous times in our weekly countdown. Something so great started and them boom all we knew they were headed off the canvas once again - for what? So the show could focus on the likes of characters whom fans really have no interest in.
And to top it all off, the show has decided to drop iconic and legendary actress Genie Francis (Laura Spencer) to recurring status -what a terrible mistake! A wrong move it is indeed especially with the character finally having so much potential story. In fact, there was enough to keep her character around. The show should have allowed Laura to become Mayor of Port Charles and continue writing the most romantic love story for her and Kevin (Jon Lindstrom) but instead, they chose to rid the show of this outstanding actress who made the show one of the most talked about during the Luke and Laura era and even thereafter. Upon learning that this wasn't Francis' choice, fans created petitions and Twitter campaigns sending a strong message to the show - we hope in this case fans will be heard and something will be done to shift this 'GH' disaster.
