There's often plenty of reason that viewers would want their favorite daytime dramas to rid the canvas of a particular character; maybe because of lack of storyline, lack of family ties, no romantic stories or just simply character irrelevance to the show. However, there are also plenty of reasons to ensure that some actors and their characters never leave especially when they are talented and beloved by fans. For this reason, we highlight Kristoff's St. John whose absence from 'The Young and the Restless' for several months impacted viewers. This was made clear when the show's ratings increased during the week of St. John's return as Neil Winters on the CBS daytime drama. We here at Soap Opera News can think of many reasons that St. John should stick around on the show but we'll just highlight 5 of those reasons below.
1. An Unforgettable Historic Character
Of course, Neil Winters is the most prominent and longest-running male African American character to appear on Y&R. His storylines, family ties, romantic pairings with his pairing with Drucilla spanning from 1991 - 2007. His storylines included; conflict with his half-brother Malcolm Winters (ex-Shemar Moore), Lily's (Christel Khalil) paternity where both he and his brother were potential fathers, alcoholic addiction, electrocution, blindness regaining his sight and more, all of which he delivered on-point performances.
2. Fans Love Him
Behold, it is no secret that fans love St. John and his character. Spending 27 years playing the role has made this clear. In 1991 he began playing the role of Neil Winters and quickly became a household name not just for America viewers but also worldwide. His pairing with Drucilla Winters was one of the most talked about daytime pairings. As aforementioned, his absence from the show allowed many to see the significance of his presence on the show, as there was an increase in the ratings when he returned in April. Reports reveal that the show saw it's largest audience since January, need we say more?
3. Oustandingly Talented
His talent should, of course, be the number one reason he sticks around on the show. St. John through powerful storylines through the years has brought his A game and outstanding acting chops to the table.
4. Greatest Hunk
Again it is no secret that St. John is one of the hottest hunks on the CBS daytime drama. With several shirtless scenes under his belt, viewers are often left in aww focusing on his well-built, eye-candy body. He's certainly a charm for all the ladies on the canvas.
5. Award-winning actor
It's easy to say one is talented but with several awards to his name, we really need to say no more. St. John has been recognized for his outstanding work with several Daytime Emmy and NAACP Image award nominations and not to mention wins. St. John won 2 Daytime Emmy awards in 1992 and 2008 in the categories of Oustanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series respectively. He has also won several NAACP Image awards, some back-to-back for his work as Neil Winters on Y&R. St. John won the award for Outstanding Actor in a Drama series in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2013 and 2014 - then, why not keep this actor around?
Well, we know he ain't going nowhere. But, fans do you agree with us? Is St. John one of those actors that Y&R should ensure sticks around?
