Esther Valentine has been in Genoa City for the last 36 years. Kate Linder who portrays the role celebrates her 36th anniversary with the show today April 8, 2018.
On April 8, 1982 Linder made her way to the daytime screen playing the role of Esther. It was initially supposed to be a one day, one line role, but Linder was asked back to the show on a recurring basis. Linder was later put on contract in 1985 and who would've thought that the "dinner, is served" character would become a very integral part of the show.
In the initial stage, her character was unnamed but it was the late Jeanne Cooper [Katherine Chancellor] who came up with the name Esther which was later used on the show. Esther received her last name after a national contest was held to come up with one. Throughout her tenure, her role as the captivating Esther Valentine has been through some emotional highs and lows on the show. Though she spent years as "Mrs. C's" housekeeper, their relationship was tested when Esther's first husband murdered her bosses husband during an attempted robbery. Esther has been a comic relief for many fans, to say the least, and we love her! Happy 36th anniversary Kate, we look forward to many, many, many more years to come.
