At the age of 20, her career kicked off when she relocated to New York and began studying and working both on stage and on television and film. She was soon after cast as Taffy Winslow on 'All My Children', playing the role from 1989 - 1990. She later moved on to film roles and primetime appearances and even a brief stint as Aunt Juliette on 'The Young and the Restless' in 2010. In 2012, Gati was hired for a two-day stint as Dr. Obrecht on 'General Hospital'. She was invited back and has filmed over 270 episodes in the past nearly six years. Her list of acting credits also include roles on Arrow, Being Mary Jane, 24, Alphas, The Mentalist, to name a few and web series such as; Ladies of the Lake, Winterthorne and Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462. Gati has received a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Digital Drama Series as well as an Indie Series Award nomination for Best Guest in a Drama. Although she has been married to Michael Browers since April 7, 2012, they have been together since 2007. Soap Opera News caught up with the talented star to discuss her recent romantic anniversary, her career, upcoming projects and more.
When we asked Gati about her marriage and love life with Michael Browers, she shared, "It’s been a truly amazing journey thus far! It did take nearly half a century to find Michael, but well worth the wait!! We compliment each other well, he’s neat and organized, I’m not…he’s very logical…I’m not…you get the picture! And we love to travel together, watch movies, and…laugh together! Laughing is definitely our favorite thing! The most important thing is that we let each other be exactly who we are! I’m very grateful that we found each other!!"
We then skipped to talking about her acting career. As we gave compliments and good wishes for her anniversary, we asked what would it take to get her on contract, she replied, "A contract." She went on further to share, "I love portraying Dr. Obrecht! I have never had such a multi-dimensional role to play like her. I have gotten to sing, and dance, and be funny, and tragic, and devious, and evil, and do pretty much every emotion in the spectrum…so I hope that there is a long and happy future for Dr. Obrecht at General Hospital! Even if I run off to work on other shows and movies, here and there it would be terrific to step back into Obrecht’s shoes!"
Gati has had some powerful storylines and worked with amazing castmates of which she had to say goodbye to a very close one recently. "I am a fairly reclusive actor when I’m working, and don’t spend a lot of time socializing with fellow actors, and usually work is the only place we meet. But there are a handful of actors that I find are especially kind, lovely to work with, and with whom I have an extra good connection. Ryan is one of those actors," she gushed as she went to highlight, "He was really a pleasure to work with and I truly wish him well on his new path. Nevertheless, it was very hard to say goodbye to a real team player and also to “my son”. I was given two beautiful children, and I took this very personally and was so happy about our instant “family". And sadly I lost them both. I’m not a method actor, but it was difficult to say goodbye to both Ryan Paevey and to Kelly Thiebaud." Gati also recently had a fun run-in with her former on-screen son and in that regard, she noted, "Ryan and I have not kept in touch, but we did happen to be both working up in Vancouver recently and found ourselves in the same hotel. My husband and I had a wonderful evening with Ryan and promised to get together again back in Los Angeles in the near future. I sense we will be “family” for a long time to come!"
As to what's next for her character, Gati said, "It would be suitable for her to get some love, now that any potentially fulfilling love from Cesar, and from her children are non-extinct. But I think she will be mourning the loss of her son for quite some time, and will not be in a mood to be romanced, nor to sing or dance. But maybe after an appropriate period of mourning…who knows!?!" So with that said, when will we see Dr. Obrecht again? "You never know," she shared.
Gati then teased of her upcoming projects noting, "I am in Season Two of Ladies Of The Lake, you may be seeing me on Arrow for a while, in a few other new projects (stay tuned) and have several new audiobooks in the works. I will be doing two solo events in Astoria, NY on April 28 with Coastal Entertainment, (718) 825-8581 and in Point Pleasant, NJ at www.UncleVinniesComedyClub.com But if you come to Los Angeles for the GHFCW, I will have a private event July 29th and look forward to seeing you all again, or meeting you for the first time.
So, fans are you missing Dr. Obrecht? Do you think it's time Kathleen got a contract?
