Stephen Nichols and Days of Our Lives contract negotiations may not have worked out just yet, but here are 5 reasons they should, click here to read-->
Stephen Nichols is one of the most revered daytime legends currently on daytime television. He has been playing the role of Steve Johnson aka Patch on 'Days of Our Lives' since 1985. However, things are not quite as it seems as Nichols and the show were in contract negotiations up until March 2018. The show reportedly offered him a contract for filming one day per week in which he stated, "doesn’t give the fans enough time to live with these characters." Nichols, however, holds out hope that he and the show will somehow come to a mutual decision and that the previous offer will be remedied. While his talent would be welcomed anywhere else whether he returns to his roles as; Tucker McCall on 'The Young and the Restless' or Stefan Cassadine on 'General Hospital', we can think of plenty reasons that 'Days' should do everything in their power to keep this actor on the show. Below, we outline 5 reasons!
He's Half of A Major Supercouple!
His character, Steve is a half of the popular supercouple; Steve and Kayla often called"Stayla". They throughout the years has garnered the show much success as they have captivated the hearts and attention of many viewers worldwide. They have often topped numerous polls created by soap opera websites and fans which aims to highlight the most popular daytime pairings. Even in our very own polls which began in June 2013, we've seen them top the charts spending 134 weeks on the countdown out of which 31 weeks have been in the top 3 spot and 3 weeks at the number 1 spot. They have enthralled viewers with their adventurous and romantic storylines. Their love story is one of the most impactful in the genre.
He's Outstandingly Talented
To say he's talented is, to say the least. With several storylines from entering Salem as a mercenary to becoming blind, Nichols has brought across his work effectively, realistically, evocative, and emotionally. Nichols has shown through the years that he's a well-layered actor who could bring to life effectively any material that he's given. This versatile actor has been able to bring his complex story and history to the forefront of the show without a hitch. He's also earned a Daytime Emmy Award nomination in the category of Outstanding Lead Actor in a drama series.
He's loved by fans and he loves his fans
Nichols has a Facebook, Instagram and Twitter account. All of which he uses to interact with fans. NOT many actors do take the time out to respond and converse with their fans, however, Nichols has done so over the years. Again he's topped several soap countdowns as his fans work relentlessly to prove their undying love for this beloved and talented man.
An unforgettable character history
Who could ever forget his entry? Of course, no one can. No one can also forget how he became "patch". Steve's nickname came after he lost his eye during a knife fight with Bo Brady (ex-Peter Reckell) when they were in the Merchant Marines and fought over a woman. Steve has crossed the paths of many dangerous missions as he worked as a private investigator and later an ISA agent.
If the story is written right and the character is used right, Nichols' character could be a ratings booster for the show. This decision, however, lies with the powers that be. We've definitely seen how investing in the show's veteran and historic characters have proven to be a ratings booster for the show.
Well, we sure hope something works out. But, fans do you agree with us? Is Nichols one of those actors that DAYS should ensure sticks around? Sign the petition, help keep Nichols around!
Thanks @soapdigest for the acknowledgement and many thanks to our fans/friends who stay with us no matter what. Thanks especially to @marybeth.evans. You are my partner and my anchor and the best actress I know. I do believe continuing to weave Steve and Kayla’s past into present day story is intelligent writing. However, one day per week(or less )doesn’t give the fans enough time to live with these characters. Respectfully, hoping for a remedy to this. #days #patchandkaylaforever @ken_corday @gregmeng @carlivatiron @nbcdays
