McKenzie Westmore is acting again! Westmore who is best known to daytime viewers as Dr. Riley Sinclair on All My Children and Sheridan Crane on Passions has booked a new role on the Emmy award-winning series 'The Bay' for season 4. Soap Opera News caught up with Westmore to chat about her new gig, her soap past, other upcoming projects and more. Read the full interview below!
Big congrats on your new role, I am so happy for you. Can you share more about the process of landing this role?
McKenzie: Well I owe a huge thanks to Soap Opera News who was always kind enough to send me daytime castings that were happening. No one seemed to understand that I wasn’t filming Face Off anymore and assumed I was still working and rightfully could understand this misunderstanding. I realized I had to hustle myself and search out castings and get word out that I was available. When SON sent me the casting for the Bay it clicked in my head “why didn’t I think of this sooner!!” I’ve always known Gregori as he’s always been a supportive dear friend and text him immediately. Funny enough I sent him a bunch of updated photos and then it dawned on me “omg! What if he changed his cell and I just text some stranger!!”
So you're a news reporter, huh? Quite different from the roles you've played on soaps in the past - what can you share about your character and what can viewers expect from you?
McKenzie: I can’t divulge too much right now except Caroline is a very career driven women. She tough and always looking for the story and further her career at any cost. She is very different from Sheridan or Dr. Sinclair. I’m already loving the character Gregori is creating here!!
Finally, you're in the line of a chance to win an Emmy award - isn't that exceptional?
McKenzie: It’s an exciting thought! Never one I thought would be a possibility but I guess you never know. I’m just thrilled to be part of such a stellar show & new family :)
You are now a part of a cast with several soap vets and other talented cast members what can you share about your experience on the show so far?
McKenzie: So far, AMAZING! Everyone is beyond kind & so professional! They’re also super fun to work to work with! I’m looking forward to more to come!
Is your character short-term? Is there a possibility that we could see her in future seasons?
McKenzie: What would you & the fans like to see? ;)
Soap fans haven't given up on a possible return to the daytime genre, especially your Passions fans - is it possible? Have you been auditioning?
McKenzie: I had an audition for General Hospital a few months back but unfortunately didn’t work out. I feel this fresh start with The Bay is my return. Especially with everyone cutting cable, knowing this can be streamed online and on Amazon, this is the direction of where it’s at. I’m so grateful for all the love & support I continue to receive from the fans!
What sort of daytime role could you see yourself playing and on which one of the remaining soaps?
McKenzie: Playing a character like Caroline is what I was hoping for! In charge, tough, someone to not be messed with. On another note, now owning Westmore Beauty I think it would be fun to be on a show owning a cosmetic company and tying the two worlds together.
Other than The Bay, do you have any other projects on the horizon that fans can look forward to?
McKenzie: I’m working on an independent film called Keys. We are in pre-production now looking to film next Tuesday. There’s a potential of a reality show in the paranormal space. Funny enough, I was close to joining the RHOBH but things went a different direction. Lastly, I’m having a blast with my own cosmetic line Westmore Beauty! I’m getting ready to launch new items sept 20th. One being a Bette Davis Eye/face pallet as well as a new brow product along with a 24k gold lip kit! You can find me on QVC as well as WestmoreBeauty.com. Soon Amazon as well as stores at some point soon.
