Lamon Archey talks playing Eli on Days of Our Lives, his time on Y&R, Mishael Morgan's (Hilary) Y&R exit, future project desires and more. Read the full interview here--->>>
Lamon Archey is emerging, rightfully so, as one of daytime’s next generation of top leading men. This model turned actor is only getting starting. Lamon generated lots of buzz last week when Eli got tangled up with Sami (Alison Sweeney). And this week Eli, Sheila (Tionne Watkins "T-Boz"), Lani (Sal Stowers) and Abe (James Reynolds) are the talk of #soaptwitter.
It’s baseball playoff time, right? Well, we got Mr. October right here.
Lamon is originally from the Bay Area. For about 16 years, just about the same time he started modeling, (after being scouted at a job fair) he’s been living in Los Angeles. His manager, Michael Bruno, saw his picture at one of his agencies 10 years ago and the “rest is written from there.”
We read that Lamon is an introvert. It was a bit surprising and it’s the first thing we asked him about. “Is it true?”
“Very much so," he replied as he continued, "very very very much so. I’ve been working on it. I really have been working on it. You know, I consider myself a homebody and whenever I do go out unless I’ve been drinking, which I really don’t do too often, you know it’s always been a task for me to go through the small talk in public settings talking about this and that that really don’t mean nothing. So you know I'm kind of awkward with people that I don’t know. I’ve also always been a type of person whose had a very limited amount of friends and when I say limited we are talking 1, 2 maybe 3.
I’ve always kept my circle small so yeah, I would definitely say I’m an introvert….The people who do know me well, you can’t tell them I’m an introvert. But the people that don’t know me and may meet me at an event will probably walk away and be like he’s a little weird, he’s very quiet. People think I’m stuck up but I really don’t know what to say to people.”
Fans, picture this. An introvert, who is fairly new to acting, gets his first big role playing Mason Wilder. It’s on daytime’s #1 rated soap opera (for 20ish years), The Young and the Restless and his first storyline (ever) has him mixing it up with heavy hitters like; Darnell Williams (ex-Serge Wilder), Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott) and Eric Braeden (Victor Newman). How insane that must have been in the best way possible!
“It was overwhelming. It was something that I won’t say I was thrown into," said Lamon. "I worked to get there at that time. Something looking back on now, I don’t think I was 100% prepared for. And really it isn’t that long ago in hindsight. But just in comparison to where I am at now, I can look back and say there was so much more for me to learn and there still is now. I’ve learned so much since then. But working with the likes of Darnell, Eric and Peter, they were all fantastic…Had a great time working with them and it was definitely a learning experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything.”
Mason disappeared. When we saw him again he was ‘thrown’ into the Winters drama working with Kristoff St. John (Neil Winters), Mishael Morgan (Hilary Curtis) and Bryton James (Devon Hamilton). Lamon describes working with them as “absolutely fantastic.” While talking Genoa City, we asked him about this year’s most shocking exit in daytime, Mishael Morgan's, his former co-star, from The Young and The Restless.
“I was shocked. I don’t know what happened," Lamon Noted. "But you know I truly believe everything happens for a reason so I’m sure there are bigger and better things coming her way. So yeah, I was as shocked as the fans were. She was most definitely a strong character on that show who fans had grown to love and I enjoyed working with her as well.”
Elani fans, we tried to get a scoop on what’s on the horizon for Eli and Lani. We tried the ‘I know you can’t say much approach.' But before we could even finish, Lamon said, “Sure Can’t! Sure Can’t! Let me say that now!" (It was priceless and hilarious!)
So, we tried asking for more of a general direction. We asked Lamon for any small nugget he could give. We were trying to work him. We were trying to get a scoop! Lamon chose his words carefully as he went on to share, “I would say look to see Sheila becoming an interesting part of the dynamic between Eli and Lani. Look to see her create some trouble that will affect not only Eli and Lani but the characters surrounding them as well.”
The thought of Valerie (Vanessa Williams) vs. Sheila makes us giddy! Lawd, what if we get one with Sheila and Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes)?!
We are seeing the foundation of Lamon’s ‘nugget’ being laid this week. The scenes with TBOZ, with the TLC4EVA license plate, ‘no good scrub’ Abe, ‘skank’ Lani and ‘real good catch’ Eli are soap gold. Platinum.
We’ve also noticed in the last few weeks Eli has been expanding beyond the Horton Square and the police department sets. He visited the Kiriakis and DiMera mansions when conducting police work, solo. We were glad to see this trend and hopeful it will continue. Lamon assured us it would. “Look forward to alot alot more police work and interaction with a wide variety of characters.”
Yeah fans, Lamon and Eli are on a roll! Last week, Sami and Eli’s scenes garnered much buzz. Poor Eli by all accounts still relatively new to Salem, definitely new to Sami, is assigned the task of arresting Samantha Jean Brady. Alison Sweeney, as usual, has left nothing on the table during this visit. Ali brings it every time she comes. Lamon took us inside those dynamic scenes.
“She brings it every damn time. In some ways, I look back and was like gosh she’s like a Tasmania Devil. She just goes just super wild but it works and it’s so fun to watch. And not only is it fun to watch it’s fun to enter myself into that tornado. What you saw of her like literally me chasing her, she’s dragging me like that wasn’t put on. I was really trying to grab a hold of that woman. She’s not doing it to be cute, make it look more than it actually is. She’s out there really working pulling away. When I say my ass was getting dragged around that stage, I was getting dragged (much much much laughter). But it was so fun working with her. Whenever I worked with her it was always exciting and never a dull moment.”
Days’ fans for the most part have gotten used to the 6 month ahead taping schedule (not like we had a choice lol.) It can still be a ‘pain’ particularly when there is a storyline that isn’t working or one is working and we aren’t seeing it enough. From the outside looking in, you have so many things going on at once. You have what’s being seen onscreen, what’s in the tank (what’s been taped), what’s being shot at the time and scripts that have already been written. We wanted to see it from an actors’ perspective in this regards Lamon noted, “It’s very challenging. There’re three things going on, what’s on the air, there is what we are currently shooting right now and there are the scripts that we are reading that we are preparing for. So, it is alot but the multi-tasking skills that my fiancé says I lack they have transferred over to that spectrum or category. It’s not easy but it’s something that has to be done.”
Lamon went on further to say, “Now I would say more so it’s two things because once we’ve already shot it, we are done with it. We move on. So, it’s really what we are shooting and what we are getting ready to shoot. What the fans are seeing we have already kind of moved on from that. A lot of times I’ll hop on Twitter and I’ll see what the fans are talking about what was aired that day and I’ll have completely forgotten about it, scenes and things like that.”
A perfect example is Lamon’s comments about if there were more ‘Elami’ scenes after the arrest scenes.
“I don’t even know if I’ve had more scenes with her. Somebody could literally turn on the tv Monday and see me on set with her and I have no idea. So much as happened since then. I have no idea what’s coming next. I have no clue what happens next for Eli as in episodes. I know the gist of the storyline, what is coming. But I don’t know the next episode what’s going to happen with Eli. So, I find out from hopping on Twitter and seeing what the fans are talking about . That’s how I find out what’s going on in Days ‘current’."
Lamon put on his wishful storyline cap and gave us his ‘wishful’ storyline for Eli.
#IfLamonwrotedays, he would have Eli back into the Horton mix. David would come back from the dead. I mean, Lamon hit the nail on the head, “people come back from the dead all the time.” He would like to see how David’s return would affect Eli and the family. Yas. Yas. Yas.
Geli fans, Lamon has not forgotten about you all.
“I got so much love for the Geli fans. They’ve definitely held on strong. They don’t let a day pass where they don’t remind the fans of what they believe is the ship that needs to happen and all the power to you and the entire Geli fan base. Keep it going. I love you guys so much. I get on Twitter and read some of the comments and everything. I appreciate the love and I know Camila does as well.”
Speaking of Camila. She is playing, Nina Ferrera , on this season of Star on FOX. Lamon is so happy for her. “Oh My God! She’s killing it! I’m so proud of her.” Lamon was talking to Camila the last time he was on set about two weeks ago and she’s so excited. “I’m just as excited for her and she definitely deserves it,” he shares.
Lamon has his own big plans for the future. We asked him if he wanted to branch out into TV, movies, producing, directing or writing and he said,“ All that. Honestly, I want to do it all. I’ve never been the type of person that wants to just stay in one place forever. So, definitely I would love to branch out and do movies and do night time tv. If it was to work out where I could do it, all the above, at the same damn time, I’d be down for that too. I’m looking to do everything. I don’t want to limit myself.”
In closing, Lamon wanted to send a message to his and Days fans.
“I know there was a pretty large gap where they didn’t see too much of Eli. They don’t have to worry about that for anytime coming. Days has really kept me busy which is a blessing so look forward to seeing a lot more Eli.”
And we couldn’t be happier!
