Sam, Sam who's your man? Who should Sam (Kelly Monaco) be with on GH. Click here to read more---->>>
When you have been watching soaps for a long enough time (A) there are times you can smell a storyline from a mile away and when it plays out, you are 100% correct. (B) There are also those times when you think you know what's going to happen but you are wrong and things go in a totally different direction and you are pleasantly surprised. (C) There are times you think you know, you are wrong and you are unpleasantly surprised. (D) Then those are the times you are wrong and you think huh???!!!We are going to go with the Jasam vs. Dream triangle that wasn't is between "C" and "D", much much much closer to "D".
Some current General Hospital viewers might not have been watching GH during Jason's initial run but knew him from by being a soap fan. Some did watch during that time and are his STANS, die hard fans. Some did watch but wasn't a Jason fan. That isn't shade just facts. We all have our likes and dislikes and there is nothing wrong with that. But no matter how you felt about Jason, if you are a STAN of good soap your soap palate had to be watering at the thought of Steve's return, the fallout and the triangle.
Jason, Stone Cold, was on his way back to Port Charles to reclaim his life, his children and "his" Sam. (Yeah GH tried with that who will be the real Jason? But come on! We all knew Burton would be Jason). The only problem of course was Sam thought she was married to Jason. "Drew" thought so too. In fact all of Port Charles thought Drew was Jason. Nothing really original about it but soapdom was ready. Social Media was lit. Bring it on!
We are over a year post Steve Burton's return and we are like huh? Where is the triangle? A triangle is one of the most utilized fiction tropes of all time. Overused is an understatement. H-o-w-e-v-e-r, when done right it still can be magical and give great soap.
So again where is the triangle? We dunno know. Let's see if we can help General Hospital out. Let's start with a few "facts" (they are in quotes because there could be some debate but that's okay that's just part of the fun!)
- Sam loves Jason.
- Sam fell in love with Drew when she thought he was Jason.
- Sam loves Drew.
- Sam has kids with both men.
The above results in a classic triangle, a paint by numbers if you will. This isn't complicated. It's very simple. This is Soap 101 (well maybe even the remedial class.) Let's continue;
Sam is torn because she loves them both. Her history with Jason can't be denied. She can't deny that she fell in love with Drew and also loves who he is. She loves who she was with Jason and she loves who she has become with Drew. She loves the danger of Jason. But she's also a mom now and her kids and their safety must come first. She's changed but her love for Jason hasn't nor has her love for Drew diminished with the knowledge he isn't Jason.
Sam is visibly torn. She wavers back and forth. She has sex with both of them (no pregnancy). Jason and Drew both love and want her. They are brothers yes. But they are openly and often hostile (a couple of fights) with each other as they fight for the woman they love and their family.
Carson is Team Jasam. Alexis and Curtis Team Dream. Monica is stuck in the middle. She has loved Jason longer but also loves Drew (just like Sam). She wishes they both could be happy. But she knows that won't be the case. All of the other characters in their orbit have their say as well (Michael, Liz, Franco, etc,)
Months go by and we are treated with top tier soapy soapy drama. Just when the tension reaches the breaking point (and the audience is ready for the storyline to come to a head), Monica summons Sam to the Quartermaine mansion and tells her this has gone on long enough. The family including the kids are being torn apart. Sam must make a choice.
Sam tells Monica she knows she's right it's just hard. Monica tells Sam, she of all people understands but it must be done. Sam agrees and says she needs to go away to think. About a week or so later on her way back home, Sam calls Jason and Drew and asks them to meet her at the penthouse. She has made her choice.
In the next scene Sam, Jason and Drew are all there. Sam tells them this was the hardest thing she's ever done, she loves them both and always will. Sam chooses........And the fallout would be even better.
So why are we not getting this or some version of this and instead are getting Jason running around worrying about some murder that happened a million years ago and OG Chilly the General Hospital version, going on and on about the ancient murder and memories on a flash drive instead? No idea.
No shade just facts. This has to be the biggest missed opportunity in soaps in awhile. This is a soap writer's dream. You've got dynamo KeMo who will knock the angst, despair and intricacies out the park, two veteran actors in Steve Burton and Billy Miller and two engaged fan bases. What else do you need? Well, we need the storyline please.
Who do you want Sam with? Is it too late? Do you still care?
Drew, her and her 2 children would be safe and adored! It makes no sense for her to chose Jason! He wanted her to abort or adopt their son! That should have showed her he isn't worth the effort! At least she has electricity with Drew, none between her and Jason! Jason's too busy with Sonny and Carly, those are his first priority! Drew ALWAYS put Sam and both her children first! Wake up GH...
