Ambitions: A Change Is Gonna Come; Episode 111, The Mid Season Finale Recap: Listen to "ME" That Was a Damn Good Episode!! Read more here--->>
O-H- M-Y Goodness!
There is so much to unpack from Ambitions mid-season finale! Where do we start?
Let's start at the Carlisle breakfast table. Evan was telling Carly about a program in London that she could attend in the pursuit of her acting ambitions when Papa Carlisle stormed in armed with a pic (titled Heiress in Love) of his granddaughter, Carly, and the "spawn" of Hunter Purifoy, Lori, kissing. Papa "C" said, "Not on my watch". Evan stepped to Papa C and told him um excuse me this isn't your watch. It's my watch. It's my family. Now you need to step....Go Evan!
Listen. Big props to Ambitions for keeping it all the way real. A lot of older black people feel the same way in real life as Papa C. They want to go back to the days when things were "simple"; men were with women and women were with men. Stephanie correctly pointed out to Papa C that people who weren't heterosexual were basically "forced" to live in "the closet" because of that kind of thinking. She told him daddy or no daddy she wasn't about to put up with anybody making her daughter feel bad about her sexuality. Again, big props to Ambitions for keeping it all the way real.
That was a realistic and poignant exchange between Stephanie and Papa C. But what intrigued us even more about that scene was the stark difference between that scene in his office and the first one from the series premiere. This Stephanie wasn't as self-assured and was much more apt to be "scolded" by her father. Papa C reprimanded her for "sh*tting where she ate" i.e. sleeping with Peters. Papa C told his daughter from now on, he was back to steering the English Rose ship. And that all of her energies needed to be focused on taking Purifoy to the cleaners. Stephanie seemed to accept this with very little push back. But we bet the farm that will change at some point.
We gonna chalk it up to Amara, as she said, having a rough night after her lies and untold sins were exposed via voice mail and texts to Titus. She was tired and wasn't thinking straight. Because on any other given day she might have handled Herschel a little differently. But sis barged in there and confronted him about him changing his mind in relation to testifying against Peters. She showed Herschel her bagged evidence of a check proving he had taken bribes. She told Herschel he had two choices; to play ball and have his freedom or he was going to the federal pen. Then my sister took the call from Karen, her boss, and left the room. Shots fired. Herschel shot himself. Sigh. #RIPHerschel. Later, at the crime scene, Amara made the cop show her the picture that somebody had sent to Herschel with the faces of his family cut out.
Amara went to Peters' office to let him know she wasn't scared of him and that she knew what he had done (sent that picture to Herschel). Other stuff was said but we were distracted by the crackling chemistry between Amara and Peters. This show has so many great potential pairings! A shaken Amara went to her husband, reached out to him hoping to find comfort. Titus obviously shaken also by the news told Amara as much as he wanted to be, he just couldn't be there for her. Damn that one hurt. Yes, we understood. But still damn.
Um, can somebody direct us to the lost and found? We are on the lookout for Bella's chastity belt and for her keeping it professional stance. Because once Bella got the word from Ignacio that her probation was over and she had passed the test, girlfriend went for a "ride" to celebrate. The "ride" had her so far gone sistah girl didn't hear somebody come in and take Joaquin. We are waiting to hear from Bella on this one because usually, a momma's senses are very keen when it comes to their kids. But Ignacio is fine so yeah she was gone. Now, we heard fine Ignacio tell someone on the phone this was going to be easier then he thought and to do just what he tells them. Sigh. Why the sexiest men always gotta be the bad ones? LOL.
Evan was all giddy because he got a text from Daphne that her hubby was out of town so they could meet up at their dominatrix playland. Full stop. When Evan got there Daphne was no longer among us. Daphne was dead. #RIPDaphne. Evan got on the phone with his "fixers" and told them to get there STAT.
Speaking of a fixer, were we the only ones in our #Scandal feels last night? That scene between Papa C and Peters was everything. Papa C told Peters that Peters' daddy had canceled his "Do Not Kill" order. Peters had failed. So now Papa C had free reign to do whatever he pleased to Peters for whatever reason he pleased to do it. It was him, "ME" (Papa C) that held his (Peters) life in his hands. And that everything went through "ME". Peters took orders from "ME". And Papa C's first order to Peters was for Peters to keep his pink azz libido in his pants around Papa C's daughter. Papa C told him if not, he would shot his shot and he don't miss. Man, that was some Papa Pope and Fitz stuff right there! Good good good stuff!
Peters was getting it from all the black daddies in the midseason finale. Earlier in the episode, Peters came to visit Rondell and threatened her right there out in the open. Um, Peters, you lucky Senior didn't blow your pink azz away right there. No white man should walk in the "hood" threatening a black man's daughter in broad daylight. But we get it. You figure Senior and the people in the "hood" are less threatening than your mob family. Maybe but maybe not. LOL.
Stephanie smelled blood in the water. She met up with a wounded Titus and wasted no time making her move. And from where we sat it didn't look like Titus put up much of a fight. We really need to have a sit down with Amara. Our sister was just off her game last night. Why she went to Titus' room? She couldn't have been invited. We don't care if that is her husband given the circumstances that's a no-no. In those types of situations, a "surprise" visit is too often not a good surprise for the uninvited guest. Now our other question is why did Titus let Stephanie answer the door? Even if he thought it was room service...we hope to get the answer to that one. Stephanie whipped open that hotel room door with a look like the cat that ate the canary and Titus.....
Prayer circle.....Rondell Rondell Rondell....it's not a good time. But still, why didn't you let the bodyguard stay on? Why didn't you take the threat of danger more seriously? Why didn't Senior keep that shotgun strapped to him at all times? Why was Senior walking in the dark not paying attention to his surroundings talking on the phone? So many questions? Our beloved Senior was shot and we assume given the last shot at point-blank range, dead. #RIPSenior. We are heartbroken. WE LOVE SENIOR. Thank you, writers, for giving Evan and Senior that scene playing chess where Senior asked Evan to be his best man, told him to take care of all his children (inferred including Joaquin) and passed the mantle to Evan as the man of the family. Well done.
That was some great soap. Senior's passing no doubt will spin off several other soapy, drama-filled, storylines for the second half of season 1. We are here for it!
Just a few of our most questions going forward (we have plenty more);
1) Was Even involved in Joaquin's kidnapping?
2) Did Stephanie have anything to-do with Amara showing up at the hotel room? With Stephanie, you never know.
3) That "Kiss My Ass", Senior's last words, sounded familiar and personal could Papa C be the shooter?
4) Who is trying to set up Evan? Roderick? Ignacio? Peters? Papa C? Mama C?
OOOOOO we gonna be waiting for the return of Ambitions! Until then!
