Up From The Streets ® New Orleans: The City of Music, is a new feature-length documentary that will debut at the 30th Annual New Orleans Film Festival. The piece dissects the city’s unique musical heritage from its early innovations in Jazz through R&B, Funk to the city’s most modern-day musicians and spotlights New Orleans' deep-rooted culture.
Terence Blanchard, four-time Grammy winner, executive producer and music director of the film shared, "Anyone interested in the culture and music of New Orleans will love this film."
World-leading distributor and executive producer, Eagle Rock Entertainment and Michael Murphy Productions, a New Orleans based, award-winning producing company that focuses on projects highlighting culture and music, have teamed up for the documentary. Eagle Rock's Entertainment executive producer Geoff Kempin remarked, “The artists who have given identity to what we think of as the music of New Orleans, are now represented by a film that is both insightful and honest in its portrayal of the music culture of the city.”
Up From The Streets ® New Orleans: The City of Music filmed mainly in New Orleans, celebrates the culture of New Orleans. Included in the film are personal reflections from New Orleans’ most impactful musicians including, but not limited to, Terence Blanchard, Harry Connick, Jr, Branford Marsalis, Wynton Marsalis, Mannie Fresh, Dr. Michael White, and commentary by national and international musicians along with archival and newly filmed performances by iconic artists such as Louis Armstrong, Mahalia Jackson, Professor Longhair, Fats Domino, Bonnie Raitt, Allen Toussaint, and The Neville Brothers. The film is set to debut during the 30th Annual New Orleans Film Festival on Saturday, October 19, 2019. The film festival coordinated by the New Orleans Film Society is a highly anticipated event that draws massive crowds of both local and national film lovers.
Fallon Young, executive director of the New Orleans Film Society reports, "This year, more than 70 Louisiana musicians will pitch their music to 6 music supervisors for placements in prominent film and television shows during the 2019 New Orleans Film Festival, musicians and filmmakers will convene to learn about the collaborative process and business of music in film and audiences will enjoy the rich history of New Orleans music chronicled through the documentary Up From The Streets at one of New Orleans' most majestic film and music venues, the Orpheum Theater."
