Days of Our Lives
During “flashback week,” we got to see the dramatic events that plagued the residents of Salem over the last year. Justin and Sonny set up for Adrienne to have a relaxing Mother’s Day as Will filled in for her at the Spectator. John set up for Marlena to spend the holiday with Brady and Eric. Brady threw a wrench into their plans when he invited Kristen to come along with him. Marlena told them that she would work on putting her feelings for her aside for Brady’s sake. Eric, on the other hand, wasn’t so welcoming. The day was cut short when Kristen’s water broke on Marlena’s shoes. She wasn’t the only one to go into labor as Sarah’s water broke as Summer stopped by to see Maggie. Adrienne offered to drive Sarah to the hospital so the two could talk. Sonny brought up the idea of him and Will having another child. Will was nervous about it at first, but after talking with Abby he told Sonny they should do it.
Tony informed Chad that he had been ousted from his position at DiMera in favor of Gabi. Chad and Tony both were surprised to learn that Anna had helped her gain her new role in the company. Tony was upset at first, but after hearing Anna tell him that he always chooses DiMera over her, he decided to let it go. Summer was harsh as she told Maggie she was now an alcoholic like her. She let her know that she only had a few months to live thanks to advanced cirrhosis. Maggie was heartbroken as she watched her daughter take a drink and leave the bottle behind as she left the house. Xander told Victor about Sarah’s baby not really being his. Will, who was on his way home, decided to text Sami for Mother’s Day after forgetting to call her earlier in the day. At the same time, Sarah called Xander on her way to the hospital. While on the phone he heard the crash.
Will had swerved off the road when he heard a horn honking at him. He got out after seeing the other car had crashed. He was shocked to see Adrienne and Sarah in the car. Adrienne was conscious at first trying to get help for Sarah, but once she got out of the car she collapsed. Xander trying to find Sarah discovers Maggie’s car that had crashed down an embankment. He spotted the bottle of alcohol and was barely able to get anything out of her. He called Victor to send someone to get her and the car before she could get in trouble. The EMTs, including JJ, came to take Adrienne to the hospital as Xander made it to the scene. He offered to drive Sarah in behind the ambulance, but unfortunately for them, the baby wasn’t going to wait that long. He had to deliver her baby on the side of the road. Kristen was back at the hospital and was having rough labor and delivery with the cord wrapped around the baby’s neck.
Justin and Sonny made it to the hospital after getting the call about the accident from JJ.. Justin was devastated when Kayla had to tell him Adrienne had succumbed from her injuries. He then had to tell his son and Will before they said their goodbyes to her. Xander called Victor and told him that it was Maggie who caused the accident and killed Adrienne. When Victor came to the hospital they overheard Will, who thought the accident was his fault, tell JJ he caused the accident they decided to let everyone involved believe it was him. Jack heard from JJ about the accident and went to say goodbye to his sister. Xander went to check on Sarah’s baby and was heartbroken when the baby went into distress and died as a result of the accident. Victor, who wanted to save Maggie the heartbreak, suggested they switch her baby with Kristen’s in the NICU. Haley later learned that Kristen’s baby had died and had to tell her. Kristen, who had followed her out of the room to get information, became distraught and began shaking her before she fell down the stairs. Abby had shown up in time to see Haley go down and called for help. She also had the unfortunate task of telling her brother, who was planning on proposing, that Haley was dead. Brady was devastated to learn that his baby was dead and Kristen had killed Haley. Will told Sonny and Justin that he was the one that caused the accident and then turned himself into Rafe.
Our Performer of the Week is Days of Our Lives’ Wally Kurth (Justin)
Watching Justin break down as Kayla told him that Adrienne had died was so raw and emotional. Between all of the beautiful flashbacks and Justin saying goodbye to his love...we were done for! As sad as it was to watch, there is the part of us that is so happy to see Wally Kurth get material that is worth his caliber of acting. One of the most underrated in the business. And we cannot wait to see his name on next year’s Emmy list!
Our Honorable Mentions are:
Days of Our Lives’ Freddie Smith (Sonny)
It was just as heartbreaking as we watched as Sonny learns that his mother was gone and that his husband had been the one who took her away. Freddie Smith gave some of his best work yet in these emotional scenes.
General Hospital’s Nicolas Bechtel (Spencer)
We always love having Spencer around! Spencer got a shock to the system as he found out that his father was alive. The two shared a brief and moving reunion before reality sank in. His father had let him and his family grieve for three years so he could seek revenge on Valentin. Nicolas did a wonderful job as Spencer laid into his father about his betrayal.
