Soaps are no stranger to the weird and unexplainable, but sometimes they take a leap into the supernatural, science-fiction, or the just plain wacky that leaves us unsure of how to feel! Take a look at who made our list of the best (or worst) of the craziest soap opera storylines!

12. Delia Gets Gorilla-napped - Ryan’s Hope
Delia Ryan struck up a friendship with Prince Albert, a gorilla in a local exhibit. She bonded with the animal after learning that he had been separated from his mate...just like she had been. Thanks to a broken lock, Albert escaped his cell to go after his new friend. He knocked Delia out and carried her to an abandoned building to keep for himself.
11. Melaswen - Days of Our Lives
Throughout late 2003 and early 2004, fans were horrified as the residents of Salem began getting picked off one by one. Abe, Jack, Maggie, Caroline, Cassie, Roman, Doug, and our dear Alice were all victims of this mysterious murderer. It was eventually revealed that Marlena had been the killer, and after her supposed death, she woke to find herself on the island of Melaswen - New Salem spelled backward. She was greeted by Alice and was told by Roman that they, in fact, were not dead. They were just living in an alternate universe that looked just like Salem...just without all of their loved ones. Once the story was resolved, it turned out that Marlena had been brainwashed into thinking that she was the killer when it was actually Andre DiMera.

10. Eden, Cruz, and the Magic Mirror - Santa Barbara
While on their honeymoon, Eden and Cruz came across a magic mirror in their room at an inn. The two laughed as they played along with the ritual, and after they stepped through the glassless mirror they didn’t see anything magical. That was until they went downstairs to see the furniture had rearranged, the clerk at the desk seemed younger...and they ran into Eden’s parents who were also a lot younger and had no clue who they were. After some mishaps, the two had to work to reunite her estranged parents or Eden would never be born.
9. Eterna - One Life to Live
In 1989, Viki, Cord, Tina, Gabrielle, and others became trapped in the underground futuristic city of Eterna. While there Viki learned that her friend Roger was raised in Eterna and managed to escape when they were teenagers. The two had fallen in love and conceived a child. After Viki watched Roger supposedly die in an explosion in Eterna, she turned into her alternate personality Niki Smith, and never remembered having Roger’s daughter.
8. Reva’s Clone - Guiding Light
After thinking that Reva had died in a plane caused by Annie, Dr. Michael Burke wanted to help a devastated Josh and decided to clone Reva using her frozen eggs. He presented Josh with a baby Reva and gave her an aging serum that let her rapidly age to Reva’s age. The clone kidnapped Reva and tried to get Josh to fall in love with her, but he realized that even though she looked like Reva he could never love her. The clone began to feel guilty and led Josh to Reva before she starved to death. Dolly would go onto overdose on the aging serum.
7. Clint Time Travels to 1888 - One Life to Live
Clint Buchanan had a riding accident in the Arizona desert that cured his blindness...and also transported him back in time to the old west. While there he met the lookalike ancestors of many of Llanview’s residents. Viki had to follow in his time traveling footsteps to rescue him before he could marry one of her ancestors!
6. Casey the Alien - General Hospital
Casey, an alien from the planet Lumina, landed in Port Charles and befriended a young Robin Scorpio. Robin works to convince Anna and Frisco to help Casey locate the missing piece of the crystal he needed to return home - which happened to be in the hands of Cesar Faison.
5. Erica Kane’s “Unaborted Fetus” Comes to Town - All My Children
In 1973, All My Children had a groundbreaking and topical story that saw Erica Kane have an abortion. For some reason, the soap decided to “reverse” this when Josh Madden showed up in town. The audience, Josh, and Erica come to discover that her doctor had taken the aborted fetus and implanted it in his wife, who was able to carry the baby to term.
4. Precious the Orangutan - Passions
Precious was a live-in nurse for the elderly Edna Wallace...and she was also an orangutan! When Precious wasn’t busy caring for Edna she was crushing on Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald! In 2003, Passions submitted Precious, who was actually a male orangutan named BamBam, for a Daytime Emmy. The Academy would go on to disallow the submission because BamBam was an animal. #EmmyForBamBam! LOL
3. The Gemini Twins - Days of Our Lives
A spaceship deposited Rex and Cassie, who were deemed the “Gemini Twins” after a meteor shower hit Salem. Through a long, twisted story involving DiMera involvement, the twins turned out to be biological children of Roman Brady and Kate Roberts.
2. The Bennett’s House Gets Sucked Into Hell - Passions
We could basically put the whole plot of Passions on this list if we wanted to! Lol. But the thing that tops the list of supernatural insanity was watching The Bennett’s home get sucked into Hell! After a failed attempt from Timmy to help Charity, she is trapped in the house with Miguel and Kay as it goes up in flames surrounded by demons. They are saved when the Angel girl leads them to walk into the light.
1. Marlena’s Possession - Days of Our Lives
Thanks to Stefano DiMera, Marlena was left open to demonic possession around Christmas time. Chaos ensued when she began levitating, transforming into a jaguar, and trying to kill the residents of Salem. Thank goodness for Father John!
