The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful aired the last of their taped episodes this week. With production still on hold due to the Coronavirus pandemic, there is no timeline for when taping will start back for the CBS soaps. During the break, we thought it would be nice to write-up our wish list for what we would like to see from these two shows when they come back with new episodes!
Bring Back the Fashion (The Bold and the Beautiful)
For a show revolving around a family in the fashion industry…we certainly haven’t seen a ton of fashion recently! Back in Bold’s heyday, we would get fabulous fashion shows filled with beautiful designs and a ton of drama. Does anyone remember the fashion duel between Spectra and Forrester in Portofino? Or the scandalous launch of Brooke’s Bedroom line?! We had hopes for the showdown between Hope and Steffy’s lines but then it was canceled!
High Stakes Business Drama (The Young and the Restless)
We cannot tell you how tired we are of the revolving door that is the Jabot CEO! None of the business drama seems to last - or be that interesting. Where is the edge of your seat battles between Newman, Jabot, and Chancellor?! Where is the drive to be at the top of the cosmetics world?! Where is the passion behind Jack throwing his chair through a window just to spite his competitor?! We do have a glimmer of hope with Victoria choosing her rightful CEO place over Victor’s respect and the start-up of a new division at Chancellor. But until we see that same sparkle we had before we will always want more!
Give Steffy A New Man (The Bold and the Beautiful)
Now, we all know that Steffy doesn’t need a man to thrive! BUT that being said, we would love to see her mix it up with someone new. Not Bill. And certainly not Liam. It’s time for her to find a man who will treat her like the queen she is!
A Good Ol’ Fashioned Love Triangle (The Young and the Restless)
Social media has been abuzz with the idea of an Amanda and Billy relationship! We would love to see it...just with some added drama! Let’s face it. Her and Nate make a GORGEOUS couple. We are crossing our fingers for a good ol’ fashioned spectacle of a love triangle between those three!
Veterans! (The Bold and the Beautiful/The Young and the Restless)
Using something Jack Abbott said himself this week, the middle is where he spends most of his time these days! Many of Y&R and Bold’s veteran characters have floated in the background of other stories...or not there at all! And that’s a shame! We love our soap vets! They are the characters that many of us grew up watching and to not see them on-screen - especially when there is ample opportunity to do so - is just sad. We would love to see both shows give their vets more airtime with storylines of their own. They should take a peek at Days of Our Lives where we are seeing several veteran characters all at the forefront of amazing stories!
No Umbrella Stories For A While (The Bold and the Beautiful)
Please. Please. Please. Can we have multiple stories again, Bold? Umbrella stories are great when used scarcely but Bold has a habit of only having one or two storylines going at a time. Not only is it tiresome to see the same things every day but only a few characters get featured during this time. AND it leaves the rest of the cast off-screen or hanging in the background.
Bring Back The Villains (The Bold and the Beautiful/The Young and the Restless)
WHERE ARE THE VILLAINS?! This could honestly be said about all four soaps but for these two especially. Now, we’re not talking about characters like Bill Spencer, who has a habit of doing shady things. We’re talking Sheila Carter, Matt Clark, or Patty Williams villains! We want someone to come into town and stir up some long-lasting trouble!
Diversity (The Bold and the Beautiful)
Representation matters and it would be so nice to see Justin, Maya, Carter, and Zoe on-screen full-time! These are characters that fans are invested in and that represent members of Bold’s audience. Let’s celebrate that!
Younger Generation (The Bold and the Beautiful/The Young and the Restless)
Oh, how we miss the days of the teen storylines! The Young and the Restless had an amazing younger gen with J.T., Lily, Mac, Billy, Brittany, Daniel, Raul, and Colleen but in recent years we haven’t had any compelling stories for the teens in town. Bold tried with RJ and Coco a couple of years ago but two teens do not make a scene! Soap characters have children all the time and we hardly see them! It’s time for some SORASing and returns!
