Over the last year, the charming Sean Dominic has lit up the screen as Dr. Nate Hastings on The Young and the Restless. We got the opportunity to chat with Sean about his path to stardom and what we can expect next for him - and Nate! And with his first anniversary in Genoa City coming up soon, it’s a perfect time to get to know more about this incredible actor.
He was always drawn to the arts and often searched for ways to express that creativity inside. From starring in local productions like “The Wiz” to learning how to play instruments and even being part of his own R&B group with friends. After high school, Sean would spend time modeling and working in the commercial market. “I've touched almost every form of entertainment. I think deep down I always knew I was best at acting. I modeled for quite a while always thinking it would be a stepping stool to acting...WRONG,” he laughed. “To get where I am today took a lot of deep thought, trial, and error, watching comedians hustle while I tended bar at a comedy club, and losing that job. It sparked something in me.”
Sean decided to hone his acting skills with the help of some acclaimed acting teachers and began booking roles in shows like Royal Pains and Situationships. The world of acting is a tough one to master though and doubt can creep in. “If someone says they didn’t question if this was the right path for them, they are lying. How do you know if you will make it? There is no blueprint,” Sean expressed. “I have a friend who went to Yale drama and is still fighting to book a solid job in this industry. I know people who've been going after acting for YEARS and made very little progress. I had a girlfriend once who tried to tear me down for believing I can be somebody in the acting world. So yeah, I've definitely questioned myself.”
Eventually, he landed his first major role as Jabari Johnson on OWN’s Greenleaf. Getting the job was what he called a “surreal” moment but one that was extremely important for the future of his career. “I felt like I had something to prove,’ he shared. “I didn’t know how long I would be on the show. It could have only been for two episodes. But thank God I was in all of season 2 and some of season 3.”
Not long after his run on Greenleaf ended, Sean found himself auditioning for the long-running CBS soap The Young and the Restless. He felt great about his first audition and was happy to be asked back for a second. “It was me and three other guys for the role of Nate Hastings. They had us audition with Melissa Ordway (Abby Newman). She was great. She gave me all the energy I needed for that audition. I felt that she really wanted me there,” he shared.
And as they say, the rest is history! Sean landed the role and made his onscreen debut on April 10, 2019. When he was growing up his family could often be found watching soaps, which would lead to him getting hooked on the drama. So, getting to be part of television history is special to him. “I’ve got the chance to meet so many of the cast. It's amazing to be in the presence of soap opera royalty honestly. And to see that they are down to earth and have a sense of humor is amazing.” As for what’s next for Nate? Well, Sean teased that it looks like drama is heading his way in the form of “a woman and money.”
Sean Dominic has had an incredibly interesting life to this point and we cannot wait to see how far his charm and talent take him! Though, wherever that is you can guarantee that he will be grateful for the ones who have supported him along the way. “I thank [everyone] deeply. I feel the love on social media. And I'm working on bringing more ups and downs with their favorite daytime drama!”
