Whether you recognize her as One Life to Live’s Kelly Cramer, Guiding Light’s Dinah Marler, or Phyllis Summers from The Young and the Restless, Gina Tognoni has proven to be one of Daytime’s best actresses. The powerhouse performer, who was last seen in 2019, continues to be one of the most missed stars in the genre. Always hoping for her return, we want to play a bit of wishful thinking… and casting! We have chosen five roles across the remaining four soaps that we would love to see this 3-time Daytime Emmy winner tackle. Let us know which one you would like to see come to fruition.

Sally Spectra’s Mom (The Young and the Restless/The Bold and the Beautiful)

Not much is known about Sally Spectra II’s mother. Sally once revealed that she and her sister had lived a nomadic life with their shady parents on the carnival circuit before eventually being raised by their grandmother after they went to jail. We think it would be interesting to introduce Gina as the mysterious Spectra matriarch and see her play off of Courtney Hope. While this could happen in Genoa City as we expand Sally’s world in the town, we kinda wish that the Spectra women could return to Los Angeles and shake things up for the Forresters!

Skye Chandler (General Hospital)

How fun would it be to see Gina become part of another iconic soap family?! Skye has the honor of being the one character to cross over to all three of ABC’s hit soaps: All My Children, One Life to Live, and General Hospital. Last seen in 2012, Skye is part of the Quartermaine legacy. And there is always a reason to have more Quartermaines in Port Charles. With the introduction of Austin and his fight against Edward’s will, now would be a great time to see Skye join in on the family and business drama. She could also bring along her daughter, Lila, to expand the younger generation. 

Noelle Curtis (Days of Our Lives)

Does anyone else remember Noelle?! The daughter of Dr. Neil Curtis and Liz Chandler has been MIA since the late 80s and we think it’s time to reintroduce her to Salem. While we are ignoring the age of the character a bit for this one, we would love to see Tognoni bring this role back to life. The last fans heard Noelle had a shocking - off-screen - one-night stand with Rex Brady, who happened to be in a relationship with her half-sister, Sarah Horton.

Lois Cerullo (General Hospital)

This is probably the most “out there” choice on this list. However, it is the one that we would be the most excited to see! The presence of Lois, ex-wife of Ned and mother to Brook Lynn, has been clearly missing on canvas. Brook Lynn needs her momma! Gina brings entertaining energy to every role she plays and we think that would pair well with that of Amanda Sutton. Plus how fun would it be to see Gina and Lisa LoCicero square off on-screen?! 

Emily Peterson (The Young and the Restless)

We almost went with Diane Jenkins but with the exit of Kyle and Summer, we felt that Diane’s presence at this time would be a bit of a waste. That being said… we absolutely adored Gina’s chemistry with her Y&R co-star Peter Bergman! And we feel the best way to get that back would be to bring back his one-time love interest, Emily Peterson. Their relationship was arguably doomed from the start when Emily, who was a psychiatrist, came to town to see her former patient, Patty Williams. The deadly Patty had plastic surgery to look just like Emily, which was a bit odd for Jack, who had been previously married to Patty. That didn’t deter him from falling in love with Emily along the way. Their relationship ended after Emily was almost killed by Patty. Jack, the long-time bachelor with a horrible history with women, needs someone to settle down with and we think Emily could be the one! And who knows, maybe she could bring Patty with her?!
