Soap Opera News had the awesome privilege of chatting with The Young and the Restless newcomer, Rory Gibson who plays Noah Newman. Gibson hails from Southern California and was able to tell us much more about his background and more.
When we inquired about his background albeit not much is stated on the internet Gibson shared, "I’m not surprised there’s not much about me online. I’ve only been acting for a couple years now, and Y&R is my first big gig." He went on to share, "I was born in Long Beach and have lived in Southern California my whole life. I’m happiest in the ocean. I’ve been in love since I was 16. I am referred to as “The Dog Guy” to people who know me. I like to think of myself as a fairly calm/positive person. And I’m an actor! The rest will remain a mystery hahaha."
Landing a role on the CBS daytime drama is a major compliment for the actor. He was able to fill us in on the process of nabbing the role of Noah Newman. "I was at my Step Mom’s visiting when I got a call from my agents saying Y&R wanted me to send in an audition tape," he revealed. "I didn’t have much equipment at my disposable being out of town, so I did the classic book stack tripod with my phone in the garage, haha. I sent in the tape, but casting wasn’t crazy about it initially. They said I was a bit too angry, and to bring a little more optimism into the scene. I sent in the new rendition and got called in for a screen test about a week later. The test went well, besides flopping one line (but Josh took the wrap for me and said it was his fault). I left the screen test and right after I laid down on my couch I got a call saying I booked the part. It was the quickest turn around I’d ever experienced."
You know how sometimes it can be challenging for actors to take over the role of legacy character already played by beloved actors? Well for Gibson, he noted, "I didn’t find it challenging to take over the character, mainly because I didn’t want to replicate anything that had already been done." He is obviously a charismatic person to say the least. "I’m sure the last guys did great work, but this Noah’s going to be different. He’s older now… lived more, suffered more, loved more. He’s not the same guy, so I feel I have a lot more freedom to explore."
With Noah back on the canvas, we can't help but wonder what's next for him. "I’m not sure how much I can tease… let’s just say he has a tendency to try and solve everyone else’s problems, but can’t seem to solve his own." His love life is another story, one that viewers are very interested in. When asked about what could happen in Noah's love life, Gibson shared, "He’s a romantic dude, but for him, romance and chaos seem to go hand in hand. So who knows… anything can happen."
Outside of acting, he keeps himself very busy. He said, "If I’m not on set. I’m either home with my girlfriend and dogs, at the beach, working out / training Muay Thai."
So, fans, who would you like to see Noah get paired with?
