April Parker Jones, who played Natalie Henning on If Loving You is Wrong, has been cast as Viola Smith in Bel-Air, Peacock's dramatic reboot of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Viola "Vy" Smith is a mother who sends her son Will from West Philadelphia to Bel-Air in the hopes that he can make a more fruitful life for himself.
Parker Jones took to Instagram on Tuesday to share her excitement and gratitude, "Peace and blessings. I am beyond honored to bring to life Viola Smith on Peacock's Bel Air...premiering Sunday, February 13th. Even more honored to lend my voice to honor the 100th anniversary of the Langston Hughes poem Crystal Stair on the first day of Black History Month!"
The posts accompanied a video clip of the promo showing scenes from the show with Parker Jones voice over reciting the poem Mother to Son by Langston Hughes.
The first 3 episodes of Bel-Air will premier on Peacock on February 13th and new episodes will be released weekly after that. The show also stars Jabari Banks as Will Smith, Adrian Holmes and Cassandra Freeman as Will’s aunt and uncle Phillip and Vivian, Olly Sholotan as Carlton, Coco Jones as Hilary, Akira Akbar as Ashley, and Jimmy Akingbola as Geoffrey.
