A huge part of February Sweeps on General Hospital was the final downfall of Peter August as he kidnapped Bailey Louise and convinced Maxie (Kirsten Storms) to run away with him. Storms did a phenomenal job of showcasing Maxie’s strength in the face of danger and showing how a mother would do anything to protect her child. Even though Maxie waited for months to be reunited with her daughter, she knew it was in the best interest of her child to convince Peter to leave their baby behind in Port Charles as they went on the run. Fans could feel Maxie’s pain through Storms’ powerful performance as Maxie has a tearful goodbye when they drop off the baby at the fire house. Storms pulled double duty as Maxie pretended to be going along for the ride with Peter to keep up the charade yet showing how painful it was for Maxie and how scared she was whenever she was able to break eye contact or hide facial expressions from Peter. Those subtle facial expressions by Storms conveyed so much. Fans cheered when Maxie came clean to Peter as what her true intentions were as Storms showed how Maxie got her spunk back. She told Peter off and kneed him in his privates before running away. When Peter caught up to her and threatened to shoot her, Maxie told Peter that she would rather die than be with him. Storms’ performance was so spot on that it was believable that Maxie would have rather died in that moment.
Meanwhile, Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) was devastated when she realized that Peter ran off with Bailey while she wasn’t looking over her. She was riddled with guilt and fear as she blamed herself for not keeping the baby safe. BLQ had to reveal the truth about Bailey’s paternity to loved ones, one of which was Ned. Setton showcased BLQ’s vulnerability with Ned as BLQ was fearful that Ned would be disappointed in her actions. When Ned told her that even though he was hurt and had questions, he was proud of BLQ for stepping up and Setton showed the perfect combination of shock and relief as BLQ shared an embrace with her father. After Bailey was returned safely, BLQ and Chase has to give the baby up to Felicia which broke BLQ’s heart. Setton’s powerful performance made some fans wish that the baby could stay with BLQ. BLQ and Chase had been dancing around their feelings for each other for quite some time now and finally BLQ and Chase (Josh Swickard) shared their first kiss. Setton and Swickard’s chemistry is undeniable and fans cheered for “Chalynn” taking the next step to becoming a couple.
Arguably the most touching scenes this month were when Maxie went to see BLQ to get Bailey back. Maxie lets BLQ know that she plans on making the baby’s name officially Bailey Louise. Maxie also lets her know that since she is the mommy, she wants BLQ to be momma. This left fans in a puddle of tears as Storms and Setton sold this scene; fans could feel the sincerity and the strong bond these two women share. While some fans have been frustrated that Maxie and BLQ didn’t let others in on the secret earlier (such as Valentin, Anna, Felicia, Robert, Mac, etc.) the pay off to this storyline was the downfall of Peter and the bond that Maxie and BLQ will share due to Bailey Louise. Storms and Setton have been nothing short of spectacular in this storyline and moments like the ones they shared over the baby’s name and BLQ’s place in Bailey’s life are what made this story moving and meaningful. After Maxie left with her daughter, fans were crushed for BLQ yet again when she sought out a hug from Ned to console her. Setton has definitely caused fans to reach for tissues multiple times this month!
Fans can’t wait to see what happens next in their storylines (and can only imagine what drama could unfold if Lulu woke up from her coma to see Brook Lynn BFF’s with Maxie and a second mom to Bailey!).
