Neighbours Cancelled After 37 Year Run! Learn More Here>>>
After an impressive 37 year run, the Australian soap opera, Neighbours, has been cancelled!
The producer, Freemantle, has been attempting to find alternative finding for the series after their UK broadcasting partner pulled their funding. Australia's 10 Peach invested but it could not provide enough funding to keep the show on the air. Ratings have declined steadily for the series in Australia and the UK.
Freemantle announced the cancellation in a statement. “Despite an extensive search for alternative funding, we simply have no option but to rest the show. To our amazing, loyal fans, we know this is a huge disappointment, as it is to all of us on the team. We thank you for all your messages and support and promise to end the show on an incredible high. From here on, we are celebrating .”
Many big stars got their starts on Neighbours, including: Russell Crowe, Chris Hemsworth, Liam Hemsworth, Margot Robie, Guy Pearce, Kylie Minogue, Murray Bartlett and Natalie Imbruglia.
They have not announced an airdate for the final episode. The show currently airs at lunchtime and is shown again in the early teatime slot with Home and Away, another long running Australian soap opera.
