Fans can’t help but love to hate The Bold and the Beautiful’s Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) and that’s in large part due to how incredibly talented Brown is. Brown brings depth to Sheila’s character and excels at showing Sheila’s many layers and how complicated she is. This past month (April) has been rough for Sheila and that’s an understatement. She is responsible for the shooting and death of her own son, Finn (Tanner Novlan) and for shooting her daughter-in-law, Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood).
While Sheila is grieving for her son, she is also suffering in silence when it comes to her guilt (knowing she’s responsible for his death) and fear of Steffy remembering what happened. When Sheila couldn't take it anymore, she attempted to jump off the roof of the hospital, but Taylor (Krista Allen) stopped her. Taylor accidentally slipped off the edge herself and Sheila saved her which bonded the two women. The rooftop scenes were heartbreaking yet filled with adrenaline. There were moments when Sheila attempted to grieve alongside Taylor and Brown showed Sheila letting her guard down briefly as Sheila was desperate to make a connection with someone. As Steffy recovered, Sheila grew increasingly more paranoid that Steffy would remember what happened. She thought about drugging Steffy and then staging it as an overdose. Brown was able to voice Sheila’s thought process on how Sheila came to the conclusion of killing Steffy and how she didn’t want to hurt her but felt like she had to. Sheila is so deranged that she convinces herself that it’s Steffy’s fault for pushing her to do this.
Brown is able to show Sheila’s fragile mental state and while Sheila is a villain and does terrible things, Brown is able to have fans, even if momentarily, empathize with Sheila. That is extremely hard to do considering the terrible things Sheila has done, but Brown masters this task and makes it seem effortless. Brown has shown that Sheila genuinely wanted to start over and make amends, but when pushed too far, she was driven over the edge which ultimately led to Finn’s death and Steffy getting hurt. Sheila tries to rationalize that other people are responsible for her actions. Even after everything Sheila has done, there are some fans that are open to a possible Sheila and Deacon (Sean Kanan) pairing! This further shows that Brown is a phenomenal actress and fans just can’t enough. Bravo to Brown for her captivating performances! Fans can’t wait to see what happens next!
