Cameron Mathison, who plays Drew Cain on General Hospital, has been very open with his fans about his journey with kidney cancer in 2019 which included both surgery and treatment for cancer. He is very active in multiple charities that support both cancer research and survivors.
He recently shared a video on his Instagram with the caption, "It’s been 3 years since my kidney cancer surgery and I’m feeling amazing:) I’m back here at USC Keck for my CT scan, chest X-rays, and bloodwork to make sure I can say … 3 years cancer free. Lots of feelings coming up remembering Vanessa and I here early in the morning back in 2019 for my surgery. So so grateful for all the help, support and love we’ve received on this journey. Love you guys
(I get the results in a few weeks)".
On Tuesday night, at a fan event at the Stress Factory in Bridgeport, CT, with Laura Wright who plays Carly on General Hospital, he shared with the fans assembled there that he had just received the results of those scans and he is still cancer free!
"I got my scan results and I am three years cancer free," he said. The crowd erupted in cheers when he made the announcement and Mathison was very obviously touched by their support. He graciously agreed to allow us to share the great news with our readers and we thank him for that and wish him continued good health!
