John Stamos is celebrating his 59th birthday today. Stamos was born on August 19, 1963, in Cypress, California, to William "Bill" Stamos, a second-generation Greek-American restaurateur, and Loretta (née Phillips). His original family surname is Stamatopoulos. In his youth, Stamos worked for his father's restaurants, and as a teenager, had a job flipping burgers in the Orange County area. He attended John F. Kennedy High School and played in the marching band there.
Actor, producer, singer, songwriter and musician John Stamos burst on the scene and stole America’s heart as “Blackie Parrish” on the soap opera General Hospital which also garnered him a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series. During Stamos’s multi-decade acting career, he has starred and guest starred in countless television movies and shows as well as performed on stage in numerous theater productions.
Most known for his role as Jesse Katsopolis on Full House, Stamos portrayed the beloved “Uncle Jesse,” in the popular comedy series for the show’s entire eight-year run. Stamos reprised his role on the Netflix reboot of Full House titled Fuller House. He appeared in the reboot’s five seasons while serving as a producer on the show.
Currently, Stamos stars in Disney Plus’s sports comedy-drama, Big Shot along with Jessalyn Gilsig, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Richard Robichaux among others. The story follows a temperamental college basketball coach (Stamos) who gets fired from his job and in turn takes a teaching and coaching job at an elite all-girls private high school. The ten-episode first season debuted on the streamer in 2021. The show was renewed for a second season. Season 2’s release date has not been announced yet.
The singer, songwriter and musician (drums, congas, guitar) began learning how to play the drums at the age of four. Stamos has performed all over the country including on Broadway and with The Beach Boys.
