Laura Wright, who plays Carly Corinthos, and Cameron Mathison who plays Drew Cain, hosted a Coastal Entertainment Productions General Hospital fan event in Bridgeport, CT, and to say it was utterly charming, delightful, and lovely does not do it justice! The pair entertained fans for almost 3 hours with behind-the-scenes stories, personal anecdotes, a marathon question-and-answer session, and one-on-one meet and greets complete with photos and autographs.
The evening started with them talking about the budding romance between their characters which received a very good response from the crowd. They talked about their potential obstacles and teased that while it may not all be smooth sailing, the couple is full steam ahead!
They joked about how alike they are in personality and work ethic. Laura Wright declared, "We are the same person." Cameron Mathison agreed, "We are the female and male versions of the same human. It's amazing. The way we work, our interests, things that are important to us. It's pretty cool."
They both talked about how they were cast on their first soap operas, Loving where she played Ally Rescott, and All My Children where he played Ryan Lavery. Their mutual love and admiration for the daytime genre and all of those who work in it was very clear.
Mathison's admiration for Wright was on full display as well. He told the crowd, "I've been lucky enough to work with two Oscar winners in my career and I swear to you, Laura is the best actress I have ever worked with."
They also teased that the upcoming storyline for Carly and for the Carly and Drew pairing will be a great one, "So much great stuff coming up, so much interesting stuff coming up for Carly and Drew. A lot that reveals Carly's history." Laura shared while Cameron added, "You're gonna learn things about Carly you never knew even if you've been watching since she came on."
They chatted for about 40 minutes before opening it up to questions and the assembled fans had plenty! The Q and A went on for about 90 minutes. In response to one question, Laura talked about the fights between Carly and Nina, played by Cynthia Watros, and shared that it was hard to do since they are such good friends in real life, "I know it's fun for you guys to watch but it's not always fun to come in and scream and yell in someone's face and of all the people, Cynthia has to be the nicest person on the planet. I love her. It's awesome because I trust her so much but it's odd too. It's not easy but I feel safe doing it because I know I am working with an actress who is going to take it and give it right back."
Wright shared that the number one question she has been asked over her years as Carly is who is the better kisser, Sonny or Jax, and her answer delighted the assembled Crew fans while also teasing a kiss between Carly and Drew that had not aired at the time of the event, "I always said Jason but now I don't know. Wait until you watch tomorrow, I saw stars."
In response to a fan question, Wright shared that she and Mathison are planning to do a Christmas movie together and Mathison confirmed it, "I am going to produce it, and eventually it is going to happen. The two of us will be in one together."
Mathison assured fans that his upcoming digital series for GAC will not impact his General Hospital screen time, "I'm shooting it, I'm editing it, I'm creating it. I'm doing it all on my cell. It's all basically shot on my iPhone. It's in my downtime and will have no effect whatsoever (on General Hospital)."
At the end of the Q and A, the pair spent about an hour doing one on one meet and greets with fans who had VIP tickets. They chatted, signed autographs, and posed for pictures with every fan waiting and were very gracious and patient with everyone they encountered.
The duo have one more event planned on September 24th at Punch Line Comedy Club in Sacramento, CA. If you are in the area, you should definitely check it out. They are even more wonderful in person than on General Hospital and they're pretty great on General Hospital! You can buy tickets at https://coastalentertainment.com/ .
Thank you, Laura Wright and Cameron Mathison, for such a wonderful fan experience!
