Everybody in soap land will remember where they were on August 3, 2022, when the news broke that after 57 years of airing on NBC the soap opera, The Days of Our Lives, was moving to the NBC streamer, Peacock, beginning on September 12, 2022.
It is safe to say that the news didn’t come as a total shock. As fans of the soap opera are well aware, for several years the sudser’s future seemed to hang in the balance. Given this whenever the date for a decision regarding renewal drew near, collective breaths were held, phones were constantly refreshed, and then thankfully collective sighs of relief were exhaled when news of renewal was announced. The move to Peacock was met with various emotional reactions but at the end of the day the beloved soap will continue to air and that is the best news of all.
Shortly after the news about Days of Our Lives broke, NBC announced that the sudser’s time slot would be filled with “NBC News Daily,” hosted by Kate Snow, Aaron Gilchrist, Morgan Redford, and Vicky Nguyen. The news show provides viewers with the latest national and international news; consumer, health, and personal finance reporting; up-to-the-minute local news.
The ratings are in for the show’s first week. Per Soap Opera Network it averaged 935,000 viewers. The rating placed the show in last place among Total Viewers and last in both Women 18-49 (tie) and Woman 25-54 rating. Also, in comparison to the week ago and year-ago numbers for the soap, NBC News Daily was down -744,000 and -762,000 viewers, respectively. In addition, in key sales demos, the news program was down week to week and year to year compared to Days of Our Lives.
