Genie Francis, a seasoned soap actor, is commemorating a milestone today. Francis made her debut as Laura Vining on General Hospital 46 years ago.

Here is a quick summary:

As Lesley searched down a resentful Laura who was then residing in a commune in Canada, Laura returned to the scene on February 8, 1977. Laura is not happy and wrongly accuses Lesley of leaving her. But Lesley convinces Laura of Cameron's plots and persuades her to go home with her.

It didn't work because Dr. Rick Webber, a friend and Lesley's romantic interest, had to save them after the commune leader threatened them. Later, Laura develops feelings for law student Scott Baldwin, and when he rejects her, she has an affair with Rick's buddy David Hamilton out of her hurt. Laura accidentally causes David's death when he rejects her for Lesley. Laura does not remember the incident and Lesley confesses to the murder. Laura confesses and receives a probationary term when Lesley is found guilty. On Laura's 17th birthday, Scott and Laura reconnect as her life starts to spiral out of control, and they get engaged. At the university nightclub, where she is working for Luke, he rapes her. Even though Laura pardons him, the rape starts Luke and Scotty's long dispute.

For the gangster Frank Smith, who gives Luke the order to kill a local senator, Luke oversees the campus disco. Luke refuses, and as people attempt to console a hurt Luke, a rape takes place. Laura tries to avoid Luke, but when they both begin working at ELQ, they end up dating. They escape capture in 1979 after solving the enigma of the left-handed youngster. Later, the pair works together to prevent Mikkos Cassadine from freezing the planet. Laura and Scott get married in 1981 after realizing how much they love one another. Helena, Mikkos' widow, curses the pair for her husband's passing. 

Tiffany Hill, Laura's friend, helps Laura land a modeling gig as "Ms. Star Eyes," but she disappears out of thin air after being taken hostage by David Grey and left for dead. Stavros, the son of Mikkos and Helena, is shown to be holding Laura in 1983 after convincing her that Luke had passed away. Helena confesses that Luke is still alive and lets her flee because she is sick of her son's devotion. After a disagreement with Luke, Stavros passes away.

Luke and Laura were the supercouple to keep an eye on. In the afternoon, they brought so much love and passion. Since Gloria Monty, the program's executive producer at the time, gave Genie Francis the spotlight early on to draw in younger viewers when the show was in danger of being canceled, she became recognized as GH's saving grace.

After 46 years, Genie is still beloved by fans and remains a household name. She continues to bring it, giving incredible performances one after the other on GH.
