On today’s Days of Our Lives (recap) for March 13, 2023: EJ and Nicole's plan backfires, Gwen and Alex share their misery over drinks, Wendy is angry with Johnny when Tripp reveals the stunt he pulled, and Li does his best to charm Gabi.
Gwen and Alex introduce themselves and he asks her who put her in a bad mood. Maggie and Xander discuss his conversation with Gwen. He thinks she is too mad to forgive him. Johnny and Wendy want to know why Tripp is so mad. Li tells Gabi she had fun at the museum, and she doesn’t deny it. He tells her that he thinks she will fall back in love with him. EJ and Stefan toast as they remember drugging each other’s drinks.
Gwen tells Alex about her relationship with Xander. He says they are a good match. Gwen says Xander will never stop loving Sarah. Xander tells Maggie that he really thought he could make it work with Gwen but he still loves Sarah even if she hates him. Maggie tells him that Sarah doesn’t hate him, she’s just done with him, and he has to move on. Gabi tries to convince Li that she will never fall in love with him again but he’s not giving up hope. He reminds her of the faithfulness clause in their contract and asks if a night with Stefan is worth losing her chance at his DiMera shares. Stefan talks to Shin about business and EJ asks Nicole to join him in talking to the chef. In the hall they discuss EJ drugging Stefan and say the effects should be starting at any moment. Shen tells Stefan about EJ’s concern about him having side effects from what Rolf did to him but Stefan assures him that he is fine.
Gwen and Alex toast and drink shots, a lot of empty shot glasses on the table. Gwen tells Alex about what Xander said about Sarah. He feels bad for her. She asks him why he’s drowning his sorrows. He tells her he’s drinking because of business, not heartbreak. Maggie tells Zander she is staying out of things between him and Sarah. Wendy wants to know what’s going on between Johnny and Tripp. Tripp tells her about Johnny impersonating him to steal the lab results. Stefan and Shin discuss Stefano. Stefan says he is trying to follow in his footsteps. EJ and Nicole join them as EJ stumbles. Nicole thinks he’s faking to make Stefan think he’s been drugged but he’s not.
Shin thanks EJ for arranging the dinner party. Stefan tells Shin that he has a new media strategy to protect the company. Under the effects of the drug, EJ is distracted and yells at Stefan to stop talking before insulting Shin. Maggie asks Xander if he is quitting The Spectator. She says he may be able to get Alex’s job at Titan. Alex tells Gwen about Maggie getting the job he felt he deserved. He blames being passed over on Leo’s gossip column about him. Gwen tells him that she is the editor of The Spectator. Gwen wonders if Maggie is CEO material but tells Alex he has to toe the line to keep his lifestyle. He admits it’s too late for that. Wendy asks Johnny if it’s true and he admits it. She wants to know why he lied to her. Tripp accuses him of being a coward. Li reminds Gabi of good date nights they had when they were in love. She tells him she knows what he is doing, and he asks if it’s working. EJ apologizes for his outburst and tries to smooth things over with Shin. After Stefan and Shin head to the dining room, Nicole thinks that EJ has been drugged again but EJ doesn’t believe her.
Maggie tells Xander that she let Alex off with a warning and wishes she had a Kiriakis that she could count on. Alex tells Gwen about how he tried to go over Maggie’s head. They talk about their families and upbringing as they continue to drink more. Alex asks her if she wants to get out of there. Johnny says Tripp left him with no choice. Wendy tells him that he knew it was wrong or he wouldn’t have kept it from her, and she tells him to leave. She wonders what they have if she can’t trust him. He tells her he will text her tomorrow before leaving. Tripp asks if she’s ok. After dinner, Stefan offers EJ coffee and drugs it. EJ switches their cups, but Stefan switches them back.
Gabi accuses Li of shameless flirting, and he admits it proudly. She says she admires his persistence and he takes her hand. She rips it away and calls for the check. He jokes about her being eager to get home. Tripp tells Wendy about wanting to honor Kayla’s memory and not wanting to disappoint his father. Wendy tells him that he did nothing wrong and apologizes for what Johnny did. Johnny interrupts the dinner party and EJ embarrasses him as he talks about him to Shin. Nicole tries to get EJ out of the room. Stefan tells him to go lay down and he shoves him.
EJ apologizes and Nicole tries to cover for him. Johnny and Nicole take him out of the room. Stefan apologizes to Shin for EJ. Wendy and Tripp move closer, but Gabi and Li come home and interrupt. Li tries to get Tripp to switch sleeping arrangements with him, but Wendy says no. Xander and Maggie talk about her choice between him and Alex. Maggie says Victor doesn’t get a say, it’s her choice. Gwen takes Alex back to her room. She says they came for a nightcap and Alex asks if that is the only thing they came for.
Nicole and Johnny help EJ to his room. EJ doesn’t understand what’s happening to him. Nicole tells him that Stefan must have switched the drinks back. EJ is confused as to how Stefan knew about the plan. Johnny says it might be his fault. Johnny tells them about mistakenly telling Stefan that someone was drugging him. Shin worries about EJ’s actions having a bad effect on the company. Stefan eggs him on and Shin says that perhaps EJ and Stefan won’t be equals in the company for long. Gabi comes out in lingerie and teases Li before telling him that she is saving it for when she can be with Stefan and that she will be dreaming about him tonight while Li is on the couch. Xander thanks Maggie for listening and being so loyal to him. She says she may be asking for that loyalty in return soon. Xander sends a text to Gwen apologizing for upsetting her and hoping she is ok. Gwen tells Alex they should just enjoy their drink. She gets the text from Xander and rips Alex’s shirt open before kissing him.
