On today’s General Hospital recap for March 6, 2023: Alexis calls out Gregory, Diane breaks news to Spencer, Esme's perception changes, Ava opens up to Sonny, and Victor threatens Elizabeth.

Sonny and Nina talk about Liesel being Willow's bone marrow donor. Michael and Willow arrive at GH. Liesel sees them and says she owes it to her daughter to save Willow. Mason sees Austin at the Metrocourt and tells him they need to talk for his and Ava's sake. Nina and Sonny see Ava at the bar as she is remembering her talk with Austin. Sonny asks if she is waiting for Nik. Diane tells Spencer he can't take the baby home because his mother doesn't agree he should. Liz goes into Esme's room. Esme is happy to see her. Liz says they need to talk. Liz tells her she needs to know how she ended up there. Alexis asks Gregory why he is lying about not being able to take the job when he no longer works at PCU. 

Alexis tells Gregory she called the PCU Dean and asks again why he lied to her. Liesel is about to tell Michael and Willow if she has conditions for agreeing to donate when Terry comes up to them and asks them into her office. Ava is happy for Nina that Willow may have a match. She wants Nina to have a relationship with her daughter. A child services officer arrives at GH and tells Spencer, Laura, and Victor that Esme has filed a motion to maintain custody once she is transferred back to Spring Ridge.  Liz tells Esme about what led to her taking care of Esme when she was pregnant. Mason tells Austin he followed him to Spoon Island the night Ava hit Nik. Liz tells Esme that Nik kept her prisoner. Esme asks if Liz helped him and she says yes. 

Austin tells Mason that he and Ava did nothing wrong. Mason taunts him about the tack room in the stable at Wyndemere. Alexis asks Gregory what happened at PCU and offers to help him. He tells her no one can help him. The CPS officer tells Spencer that Esme can keep the baby with her in prison for up to 18 months by law. Laura tells him they can't take Esme out of the equation. Liz tries to explain why she helped Nik and tells her how she escaped. Liz says she doesn't owe Esme an apology. Sonny tells Ava she should celebrate Nik being gone. Nina tries to reassure her that Nik could come back but Ava says she doubts that. Terry walks Liesel, Michael, and Willow through the next steps in the donor process. 

Gregory asks Alexis to let it go but she says she can't. Gregory asks if she is going to end their friendship. Nina leaves to check on Willow and Liesel. Sonny asks Ava if she is afraid Nik is going to come back. Terry asks Liesel medical questions and leaves to consult her physician. Liesel tells them that she wants Willow to have the life Britt can't. Austin tells Mason he will not go back to where he's from. Liz tells Esme the police know what she did. Esme asks if Nik disappeared because he knew he would be wanted by the police. Liz says she thinks so and goes to leave but Esme stops her and wants to know if she wanted her baby. Laura asks what happens next and the CPS officer says the baby will remain at the hospital until Esme is transferred. Spencer says he is not giving the baby up but Laura, Victor, and Diane tell him it's not over but he has to comply with the court orders. Spencer unhappily hands the baby to the nurse. 

Sonny thinks Ava still has feelings for Nik. She tells him she learned her lesson. Sonny wonders why Nik hadn't contacted her after everything that happened. He asks her what is stopping Nik from coming back. Michael thanks Liesel and asks if there is another reason. Liesel says she wants Willow to open her heart to the possibility of having a relationship with Nina. Mason tells Austin that Ava knows when to fight and when to negotiate. Nina asks Austin what brought him and Ava together. Laura promises they will do everything they can for the baby and Victor says he will do everything he can to get Spencer custody. Liz tells Esme there was a time she thought Esme was only capable of loving herself. She tells her that she has left the old Esme behind her and has been given a blank slate and it is up to her what she does with it. Spencer comes in and agrees with Liz.

Esme asks if Spencer is there to keep playing her to take her baby. Liz leaves them alone to talk and Spencer tells Esme she would be making a huge mistake if she tries to take the baby to prison with her. She tells him the baby is her baby and that she knows his father was keeping her prisoner. Alexis apologizes for prying but asks if he would feel better by talking to someone. He asks her to respect her privacy and that he doesn't want his sons to know. Austin tells Nina their near-death experience jump-started the friendship between him and Ava. She says she approves of their friendship and warns him Ava acts tough but is vulnerable. Willow tells Liesel she is grateful to her and will be in debt to her forever for being her donor but she can't put aside everything Nina did to her, Michael, and Wiley. Liesel says she understands. She asks if Willow wants to deny someone who has been waiting their whole life to love her. Willow thinks Nina loves the idea of having a daughter and not her personally. She thinks it's about Nina and not her. Liesel says she did that to Britt and they were able to later be close and she wishes the same for her and Nina. Terry takes Liesel for the next round of tests. Ava assures Sonny that she is done with Nik. He asks if Nik threatened her. She tells him Nik threatened Avery. 

Spencer is surprised that Nik held Esme prisoner but tells Esme that if she loves the baby she wouldn't want him raised in prison. Esme tells him loving her son is why she is making sure he never gets near him. Victor tries to threaten Liz with turning her in for helping Nik but she turns the tables on him and wishes him luck finding Nik. Ava backtracks and tells Sonny Nik was just threatening to take custody away from her. Sonny says if Nik threatens Avery he will find him. She asks him to let it go and he tells her that he can help if Nik has anything over her. Willow tells Michael she is thinking about what happens if she gets a second chance at life and if Nina has any part in it as Nina gets off the elevator at GH and sees them.
