On today’s General Hospital recap for March 31, 2023: Lucy is frantic, Spencer has misgivings, Ava meets with Austin, Nina and Carly set their differences aside, and Maxie and Felicia handle a setback.
Lucy prepares some snacks and settles in to watch Maxie being interviewed on the red carpet a few hours before the Nurse's Ball is supposed to start. She panics when the interviewer suggests that there are backstage issues and things going wrong but Maxie handles it perfectly. Lucy frantically tries to call her repeatedly but Maxie keeps sending her calls to voicemail. Once she reaches the end of her rope she comes up with a plan and orders a car to meet her near the safehouse!
Spencer tells Victor that he wants him to move forward with his plan to deal with Esme. Victor wonders what changed Spencer's mind and he tells him about Esme's plan to get a job. He fears that if she has financial independence that she may leave and if she doesn't a judge may still give her custody of the baby. Victor tells him that he has to prioritize Ace's welfare and offers to go over the plan with him. Spencer is confused that he wants to do it in the park and Victor hedges before lying about the Metrocourt being too crowded because of the Nurse's Ball for them to be able to meet discreetly.
Victor tells Spencer that they need to go through the old cases against Esme and find damning evidence that will force the DA to prosecute her. Spencer offers to help but Victor says that he has it covered. He blames Nik not trusting him for them being in this mess with Esme. Spencer worries that if they have Esme convicted that she'll take the baby with her but Victor tells him that if they do nothing Esme could move away or disappear with the baby entirely. Victor offers to kill her but Spencer turns him down because his friends need justice with a trial and conviction.
Spencer agrees to Victor's plan to have Esme charged. Victors warns him that if it doesn't work he will be killing Esme and keeping Ace with them. Victor promises to keep him updated on the situation with Esme and Spencer thanks him, saying he owes him one and he won't forget it. After Spencer leaves Victor mutters that he's counting on it. His henchman approaches and comments about him not telling Spencer he was leaving and Victor tells him that his movements are need-to-know only. He says that if Spencer knew the truth about his real plan he would never agree and he needs him to be onboard.
Ava sees Esme and Ace at the hospital and tells her that Ace looks like his father, her husband. She tells Esme that they were married when Ace was conceived. Esme apologizes for sleeping with Nik but Ava wants to know about everything else Esme did. Esme tells her that she's not that person anymore and that it's not easy to always have to apologize for things she doesn't remember doing. Ava tells her that everyone is judged by their worst mistakes. Ava apologizes that Nik isn't there to help her but Esme is glad that he's gone.
Ava's surprised that Esme doesn't want help from Nik and is even more surprised when Esme tells her about Nik trying to trick her into signing away her rights to the baby. Esme adds that her and Ace are better off without him and that it looks like Ava is too. Ava coldly tells her that she doesn't know anything about her marriage and Esme says that she knows that Nik cheated with her. She tells Ava that she intends to make up for the bad things she's done and Ava wants to know how she plans to make it up to her.
Esme asks Ava how she can do that and Ava tells her that the change in her has to be permanent but doesn't trust it will stay that way if she gets her memory back. She thinks the old Esme will be back someday and tells her that the moment that happens she will know and finish what Esme started with her. Austin approaches them and gives Esme the treatment for Ace. Esme thanks him for treating her son and assures Ava that she's changed for good before leaving.
After she's gone Austin asks Ava if she believes people can change and she tells them she does, for the worse like they did. She reminds him of the things they did and he blows it off as not a big deal. They talk about the police questioning why he was with her on Spoon Island and determine they need a cover story. Ava has an idea and asks Austin if he owns a tux.
Carly walks into the gatehouse and demands to know what happened when she sees Nina frantically trying to rouse a disoriented Willow. Nina explains that Willow was weak and she wanted to know if she should call an ambulance. Willow tells Carly that she had invited Nina in to update her about the bone marrow transplant moving forward. Nina tells her that she had heard it from Liesel but she was happy to hear it from her too. Carly and Nina snark at each other before Willow explains to Carly that she wore herself out putting Amelia down for her nap and plans on resting when Michael and Wiley get home from shopping. Carly offers to show Nina out and help her but Nina says that's for Willow to decide.
Carly updates them about the Nurse's Ball prep and Willow insists that they let her go do some work on snacks in the kitchen. She leaves them alone while she does it and they discuss the bone marrow transplant and their hopes for it to work. Carly says that Willow deserves all good things and Nina tells her that they should put aside their personal feelings for Willow's sake.
They agree to try and Nina brings up how much Donna must be missing Sonny. Carly tells her that this is part of life with Sonny and she needs to understand that if she's going to be with him. Nina tells her that she won't discuss her relationship with Sonny and Carly tells her that she needs to understand who Sonny really is if things are going to work for them. They snark at each other and Carly smirks that it looks like its the beginning of the end for Sonny and Nina.
Willow comes out before things can get more heated and Nina asks her how she's feeling about tomorrow. Willow's scared about the what-ifs but Carly and Nina assure her that everything will be ok and that her and Carly have her covered and she won't be alone.
Felicia congratulates Maxie on handling the reporter so well and they discuss the issues she's been having with the plans. Lucy continues to try to call and Maxie continues to send her calls to voicemail. Felicia gets a call while trying to help Maxie find a replacement for a dancer that dropped out and leaves to take it. After she's gone, Lucy approaches Maxie in disguise and surprises her. Maxie chastises her for leaving the safehouse and warns her that she's putting her life in danger. Maxie wants to know why she's there and Lucy tells her that she has the solution for the absent dancer.
Lucy has to hide when a man approaches asking for directions to the restaurant. Felicia offers to show him and Lucy is relieved she wasn't caught but refuses to leave until she helps solve the problem. Lucy wants Maxie to ask Mac to perform with the Magic Wands. Maxie is reluctant and asks why Lucy couldn't just text her. Lucy says she should be thanking her but Maxie wants to know what's really happening with Lucy. She admits that the Nurse's Ball is one of the only times people take her seriously and she needs the feeling she gets from running the Ball. Maxie promises to do whatever she can to make it a success for her and brings her back to her car. Once back at the safehouse Lucy rages about Maxie keeping her out of things and despairs over not being there.
There's panic in the safe house as they try to figure out what Eileen told Victor before he killed her. Drew and Valentin think they need to move immediately but Sonny thinks that will get them killed. Valentin is adamant that they need to leave so Sonny offers to find them a new place and move them once he does. Drew and Valentin are concerned that Eileen may have been able to pick up clues about their location and give them to Victor. Anna doesn't think that's likely but Valentin asks if she is willing to bet their lives on it.
Anna wants to call Felicia to fill her in about Eileen but Sonny and Drew warn that there should be no more visitors after they leave the safe house. On the phone, Felicia assures Anna that Eileen couldn't have known where the safe house is. Anna wants to err on the side of caution and tells Felicia no one can come to the safehouse for now.
Anna asks Sonny to speak to Spencer to see if he knows where Victor is. Sonny promises that he will and he thinks Spencer will be honest with him. Sonny tells them he will send his people to move them once he has a place ready and promises to make sure Victor pays for killing Luke before he and Drew leave.
Anna feels guilty about Eileen's death and Valentin tries to make her see that it wasn't her fault and that sometimes things go wrong. She refuses to believe it and Valentin assures her that Victor will pay for everything he did.
Spencer arrives at the hospital and Esme chastises him for making them wait so long. He blows her off and tells her he was taking care of something and they should just go.
Maxie and Felicia talk about the replacement for the missing dancer and Felicia promises they will find a replacement. Maxie tells her that she has an idea of who to ask. After they walk away the man who asked Felicia for directions pulls out his phone and calls Victor. He tells him that he tailed Felicia to the Metrocourt and saw Lucy. He also tells him about the hired car Lucy was in. After he hangs up, Victor is triumphant about having a lead on Anna and Valentin's location!
