In today's recap of Days of Our Lives for April 4, 2023: Paulina confronts Sloan about a threatening note she found in her office, Gwen is unhappy when Leo shares gossip about Xander and Chloe, Chanel takes action against Sloan, and Chloe snaps when Rachel pushes her buttons.
Sloan denies putting the threatening letter in Paulina's office but Paulina doesn't believe her. Eric defends Sloan and Paulina tells him that Marlena would be turning in her grave if she knew he was with someone like Sloan. Eric shares the news about Marlena being alive. After promising Sloan that this isn't over Paulina leaves.
Once alone Sloan questions if Eric really believes her. He reminds her that he defended her to Paulina but seems to still have suspicions. Sloan swears to him that it wasn't her even though she has vowed revenge and stands by that. Eric's suspicions intensify when he sees cut-up magazines and scissors on Sloan's desk.
John falls into Marlena's bubble bath but the duo makes the best of it, enjoying the bath and each other. He spends the rest of the day pampering her in bed while catching her up on what she missed with their children while she was gone. Marlena calls Carrie and conveys her condolences to Austin. John comforts her and tries to soothe her guilt over being alive and home when the others aren't. Despite a small mishap with the strawberries and whipped cream, the day together is exactly what the couple needs and they revel in it.
Leo is horrified and then amused when he interrupts Gwen and Alex in bed. They want him to leave but he insists that he has important news to share with her about Xander. After Alex leaves Leo tells Gwen about seeing Xander and Chloe together. She doubts his accounting until he shows her the picture he took of the twosome in an embrace.
Gwen is thrown but doesn't actually believe anything is going on with Chloe and Xander because Chloe's in love with Brady. Leo thinks that their relationship is doomed because of Chloe's contentious relationship with Rachel. Gwen disagrees and refuses to let Leo run the story about Xander and Chloe. She tells him to find a different story before leaving to go to work.
Chanel sets up an appointment for Paulina with a cardiologist and Xander overhears and questions her. She fills him in about their issues with Sloan and her concerns about Paulina's panic attack. Chanel jokes about their ill-fated marriage and Xander apologizes again. She expresses her sympathy about his relationship with Sarah ending and he does the same about hers with Allie. She grumbles about Alex coming between them and Xander rages about his cousin's many conquests. Chanel admits she slept with Alex too and wonders why Xander cares so much about who Alex sleeps with. Xander tells her that Alex is sleeping with Gwen and loves to rub it in his face.
Alex overhears them as he comes out of the inn tucking his shirt into his pants and taunts Xander with the fact that he just had sex with Gwen again. Xander threatens to give him a matching black eye but Alex doesn't back down, defiantly taking his glasses off and standing his ground. Before they can come to blows, Chanel grabs Xander to hold him back. Alex thanks her but she tells him that she's not on his side, she just doesn't want to be caught in a fight.
Alex apologizes for sleeping with Allie and promises that he is going to fix things between him and her. He tells Xander that he's hurt Gwen enough and needs to leave her alone so she can move on and be happy with someone else. Chanel gets in between them to stop a fight from erupting and Paulina interrupts, telling Xander to get his hands off her daughter. Xander and Alex leave and Paulina fills Chanel in on the threatening letter and her suspicions that Sloan sent it. Chanel tells her that she will handle the letter and Sloan and insists that her mother keep the appointment she set up for her with the doctor. Paulina reluctantly agrees and Chanel takes the letter to Leo and asks him to use it in his column.
Brady takes Rachel for sundaes to tell her the good news about Marlena being alive. Chloe arrives just in time to hear him and is overjoyed that they have her back. Rachel's angry when Brady invites Chloe to join them for ice cream and makes her feelings for Chloe known. Brady reminds her of Kristen's letter and she accuses him of making her mother write it.
Brady accidentally admits that he made Kristen write it and Chlo tries to fix things by telling Rachel that she has so many people that love her, including her. She tries to smooth things over between her and Rachel with a gift of stickers but Rachel balls them up and throws them, yelling that she hates Chloe. Chloe can't restrain herself and yells the same back and is immediately apologetic to both Brady and Rachel. Brady understands but takes Rachel home to diffuse the situation.
After they are gone Chloe drowns her sorrows in martinis. Xander arrives and she tells him what happened with Rachel. He fills her in on his latest confrontation with Alex over Gwen and Gwen arrives just in time to see them embracing as Chloe cries on his shoulder.
