In today's recap of Days of Our Lives for April 5, 2023: Stefan toys with Nicole and EJ, Gabi and Stefan meet up for a secret rendezvous, Talia pushes Jada to consider dating Rafe, and Paulina advises Tripp on his love life.
EJ and Li meet in the park and EJ asks how everything went with him catching Stefan and Gabi together. EJ can't believe it when Li tells him that he burst in on Stefan in bed with Trask. EJ quickly figures out that Stefan must have been on to them. EJ tries to figure out how Stefan got Trask to go along with his plan but Li thinks that EJ's missing the big picture about Gabi and Stefan knowing they are on to them.
Li is furious that Stefan and Gabi are playing them and that he looked like an idiot the night before. Stefan assures him that they just need to find a new way to take them down and be more careful while doing it. Li wants out but EJ makes it clear to him that he's never getting Gabi back for real and that all he has a hope of keeping are the shares. Li refuses to budge and threatens EJ to back off and stay out of his marriage before leaving.
Nicole sees Stefan in the parlor and asks how his night with Gabi went. He tells her about Li bursting in and when she feigns concern about Gabi losing her shares he gleefully tells her that it wasn't Gabi he was in bed with. She questions him about who it was but before he can answer Melinda walks in and he kisses her! Nicole quizzes Stefan and Melinda about their relationship as they canoodle on the couch. Stefan lies and tells her that it's been building for a long time and finally exploded the night before at the inn.
Nicole doesn't understand how he could turn his back on Gabi so quickly but Stefan explains that he was living in the past and after Gabi got cold feet and left the inn he realized the shares mattered more to her than he did and knew it was time to move on. Nicole is very uncomfortable as they continue to kiss and cuddle on the couch, making suggestive comments to each other. She's relieved when they finally leave to go to Stefan's room.
When EJ gets home he and Nicole talk about the situation with Stefan, Gabi, Melinda, and Li. Nicole wonders if Stefan and Melinda are actually pretending but EJ is dubious. Upstairs Stefan explains to Melinda that he needs her to be his decoy.
Gabi is working on her new fashion line when Wendy comes home and is concerned about how she's doing. Gabi is confused about why she'd ask and Wendy breaks the news to her about Stefan and Melinda Trask sleeping together. Gabi doesn't believe it and blows it off before turning the tables and questioning Wendy about her love life. When Wendy says that she and Johnny don't have a love life, Gabi asks about her and Tripp.
Wendy tells her that she and Tripp are only roommates and friends but Gabie tries to convince her that there's more going on from Tripp's side. Gabi gets a text as Li gets home. He wants to spend some time as a family but she tells him she has to go to a business meeting. He offers to go with her but she says she has to handle it alone. After she leaves Li tells Wendy that he forgot to do something and has to go.
Jada runs into Abe in the square and they chat about her working with Rafe. After he leaves Talia comes over and tells her about helping Paulina. Talia asks her about the investigation and Jada tells her that it's ongoing but they're determined to take Sloan down. Talia grills her sister about her love life and questions her about the chance of anything happening with her and Rafe.
Jada tries to convince her sister that there's nothing going on but Talia thinks she's hiding behind the department rule. Jada lays out her and Rafe's pasts with Eric and Nicole and angrily asks if they can go get dinner before storming off.
Paulina calls Abe and tells him that she is delayed at the office as Tripp walks into her hospital room. She quickly ends the call and Tripp tells her that her appointment's with him. She tells him about the panic attack and Talia helping her. He examines her and tells her that he thinks Talia's diagnosis was correct. Paulina asks him to ask Chanel out on a date. He tells her that he only likes Chanel as a friend and she wants to know if there's someone else he's interested in. He confesses his feelings for Wendy and Paulina encourages him to tell her how he feels before it's too late.
Tripp doesn't think that's a good idea because of Johnny but she tells him about her pursuit of Chanel's father when he was involved with someone else and how it gave her Chanel. She tells him to ignore her advice at his own peril. Tripp asks if she ever takes advice and tells her to tell Abe what's going on with her. She admits that he's right and tells him that he's a good doctor and a good friend.
Melinda comes into Rafe's office and wants an update on Sloan. He tells her that they had to let her go after questioning because they had no evidence to hold her on. Before leaving Trask warns him to tread carefully with Sloan because she's a good lawyer.
Abe checks in with Rafe and asks about the Sloan investigation and how Jada's doing on the job. Rafe praises her and Abe questions if there's more going on with them. Rafe reminds him about his policy about superiors not dating those under them and Abe points out that he's not denying he likes her and asks him point blank if he's romantically interested in Jada.
Rafe tells him that he's not seeing Jada and Abe apologizes for pushing him. He tells Rafe that he'd change the rule for him but his hands are tied. Later Rafe goes to the pub to get some takeout and sees Jada having dinner with her sister. Talia invites him to join them. He's resistant but Talia wears him down much to Jada's displeasure. After a little while Talia makes an excuse to leave Jada and Rafe alone to finish dinner together.
When Tripp gets home Wendy's about to leave to meet with Johnny but he stops her because he has something he has to say to her. She asks what he wants to say and he admits that he has feelings for her. Meanwhile, Paulina meets Abe and tells him that she lied before about being at the office and tells him that she was really at the hospital.
Nicole and EJ listen at Stefan's door and hear what sounds like sex but inside Melinda's playing solitaire alone on Stefan's bed and just yelling things out to put on an act. Across town, Li bursts into the bistro and is dismayed that Gabi's not at the meeting she had claimed she was going to. He doesn't know she's actually meeting Stefan for a secret tryst in the DiMera wine cellar!
