Performer of the Week
One of the best things about soap opera actors is their wide range of emotions when it comes to acting. Soaps are drama, romance, action, comedy, and every other genre all rolled into one and a good soap actor can do all of them. The great ones can do more than one or two in the same episode and that it what we saw on Tuesday from Y&R’s Trevor St. John, who plays Tucker McCall. Tucker had set up a romantic interlude for him and his lady love, Ashley (Eileen Davidson). He was determined to get her to marry him again and was almost adorably hopeful and anxious when trying to convince her that they belonged together for the long haul. He admitted the mistakes he had made in the past and owned them in the hopes of getting through to her but eventually he saw it wasn’t going to work and the anger and frustration kicked in. He lashed out at her in a painfully raw way that felt more like he was angrier at himself for daring to hope it would happen. After she walked out, we saw a broken and defeated man, everything he had hoped for gone but then by the end of the episode Tucker McCall businessman was back in charge as he struck a deal to sell his company to Victor (Eric Braeden). Tucker seemed to cloak himself in that persona as a shield against everything else he was feeling. It seemed like the one place he felt in control. Through it all Tucker’s emotions were on full display in St. John’s perfect performance. He took us on the roller coaster with his character, making us feel what he was feeling and that is why he is our Performer of the Week. Congratulations, Trevor!
