Days of Our Lives recap for May 1, 2023:

On Days of Our Lives for May 1, 2023: Roman, Steve, Kayla, and Andrew analyze Bo and Kate’s last encounter, Harris urges Shawn not to blame himself for shooting Bo, Kayla gives Chad and Stephanie shocking news, Belle punches an insensitive EJ, and Kate returns.

Roman is thrilled that his wife is alive and that his brother didn't kill her. He, Steve, and Andrew try to figure out how she got off the island, where she could be, and why no one has heard from her. They deduce that she must have taken a boat and probably ended up on one of the small islands surrounding the one Megan had been holding them on.

Roman shuts Andrew down when he suggests that Kate may not have made it to another island because she was not an experienced sailor. He has full faith in his wife's strength and resolve when it comes to getting through hard things. He tells them that they have to find her and Andrew leaves to get reinforcements. Steve and Roman discuss their plan and Steve encourages him to have faith that he'll get his wife back.

Chad calls home to check on the kids and after he hangs up Stephanie tells him that he can go home if he wants. He tells her that the kids are fine and he wants to be there to support her. Kayla comes out and tells them that Kate is alive. Chad is overjoyed but confused about why she hasn't contacted anyone. They all go inside and discuss how to find her with Roman and Steve.

On the boat, Kate is lamenting her predicament and noticing the parallels to where she was before she arrived in Salem, decades earlier. She is determined to get out of there and yells for help. A man comes down and she thanks him, again, for saving her when he found her in the boat she had stolen from the island. She asks him for a phone so she can call her husband and he asks her what she will pay him for it.

Kate tells him that she doesn't have any money right now but will pay him as soon as she gets home. The man says that isn't good enough and demands her wedding rings in exchange for using the phone. She hesitates but finally gives in out of desperation. He tells her that she can only make one call. Kate tries to call Roman but the call doesn't go through. She tries to argue that it shouldn't count as her one call since it wasn't her fault but the man is unmoved and tells her to get back to work chopping fish before leaving with the phone and her rings.

Harris is checking out of the hotel when Shawn comes in to shower and change before going back to the hospital. Harris asks him for an update about Bo and tries to convince Shawn that he isn't to blame for what happened. Shawn concedes that Harris has some of the blame for lying to Hope and sending her to find Bo alone but feels the majority of what happened was his own fault, especially since he was the one to pull the trigger.

After Shawn goes to his room Harris gets a text from Andrew telling him that they need to meet and talk. Harris waits for him in the hotel lobby. When Andrew arrives he tells Harris he needs his help. Harris is confused as to why Andrew would want his help after what he did. Andrew tells him that they need his skills and says it could be his chance at redemption.

Belle rushes to the DiMera mansion when EJ sends her a message telling her that it's life and death. She's angry when she finds out that it's just about EJ wanting to find a way to get Gabi out of DiMera Enterprises. She tells him what's going on with Shawn and his father and EJ makes an insensitive remark.

Belle punches him in anger and EJ quickly apologizes. He offers her the use of the DiMera jet so she can be with Shawn to make it up to her. She is touched by his offer but explains why she can't leave Salem right now. EJ tells her that the offer remains open. After she leaves she calls Shawn to check on him and Bo. He tells her that there's been no change and she encourages him to not give up hope. She tries to alleviate his guilt over what happened but is unsuccessful.
