Spoilers for General Hospital on May 23, 2023: Sonny is insistent; Ned is grateful. Spencer picks a fight; Josslyn updates Trina; Chase makes a romantic gesture; and Carly encounters Olivia.
General Hospital Episode Recap May 23, 2023: Nina Says Yes!
Dex is working out at the boxing gym when Spencer walks in. Dex greets him nicely and congratulates him for his heroics in Greenland. Spencer is a jerk to him and Trina overhears and interrupts them. She is kind to Dex and after he leaves to take a shower she rips into Spencer for being a jerk to him again.
Spencer tells her that he doesn't like Dex and never will and she tells him that Joss really cares about Dex and it's better for all of them if they all get along. Joss comes in and greets them both happily, hugging Spencer and telling him that she's happy he's ok. They chat for a few minutes and then Spencer goes to take a shower.
Trina asks Joss what's wrong and she tells her about the fight with Michael without mentioning the Sonny parts. She tells her that she is serious about Dex and she is keeping him in her life no matter what.
Dex goes into the sauna and is relaxing when the door opens and he sees Joss standing there in a towel. He kisses her and their towels drop. The door opens again and Dex opens his eyes and sees Spencer standing there, interrupting the fantasy he was having about Joss.
Spencer tells Dex that he has known Joss for a long time and that he knows her better than Dex ever will. He rattles off facts about her and Dex tells him that he knew Joss as a child but has no idea who she is now. Dex tries to tell Spencer that he isn't a threat to their friendship but Spencer continues to be a jerk. He tells Dex that he and Joss have no future and then pulls his fist back to punch him!
A little while later Dex comes out of the locker room and kisses Joss. Trina asks if he saw Spencer and asks if Spencer said anything to him. Dex tells her that he did and it wasn't anything important before leaving to take Joss to dinner. Spencer comes out a few minutes later with a busted lip. Trina can't believe Dex hit him but Spencer admits that he threw the first punch and then Dex blocked it and hit him back. Trina is not happy with Spencer.
Finn and Chase are talking about Tracy. Chase thinks she might have been right and wonders if it's time to give things another shot with Brook Lynn. Finn asks him if he can really forgive her. Chase tells him that he thinks he can and Finn tells him that he owes it to both of them to find out. Chase isn't sure Brook Lynn would take him back even if he asked her to. He tells Finn that he needs to fix this and that he is going to help him.
Carly calls the hospital to check on Willow in the hall and runs into Olivia after she hangs up. Olivia is surprised to see her there and Carly tells her she was just leaving. Olivia says that Carly must hate her and Carly tells her that she doesn't but Ned is another story. Olivia tells Carly how mad she is at Ned and that they've been fighting about it non-stop since the SEC showed up at the house.
Carly is surprised to find out that Olivia didn't kick Ned out. Olivia tells her that she's mad at him but isn't going to throw away her marriage because Ned told the truth. She reminds Carly that she did do what the SEC is accusing her of. Carly tells her that they just shouldn't talk about it anymore and they part uneasily.
At the Quartermaine mansion, Brook Lynn is writing a new song when Ned comes in and tells her that he is trying to find out who turned Carly and Drew in so he can clear his name. Tracy comes in and while they are all talking about it Brook Lynn says they may be looking in the wrong place for the culprit. She says it may be someone just targeting one of them, not both.
Ned leaves to take a call and Tracy confesses to Brook Lynn that she had dinner with Chase and that she made it clear that Chase is not good enough for her. Tracy tells her about Gregory interrupting them and defending Chase. Brook Lynn is upset with Tracy going back on their deal but Tracy tells her that she is better off without him.
When Ned comes back and notices how cool things are between Tracy and Brook Lynn he asks Tracy what she did. They start arguing but Brook Lynn interrupts them when she hears music playing. She goes out to the patio and sees Finn holding a boom box and then Chase appears singing her song to her. She is very touched and watches him with tears in her eyes.
After he is done singing Finn puts the boombox down and goes inside. Brook Lynn asks Chase what he's doing there and he tells he wants to get back the best thing that ever happened to him. She kisses him before he can say much else and then he tells her that he misses her and he's been unfair to her. She apologizes to him as well and he asks if she can forgive him.
Inside Finn tells Tracy it looks like her plan to keep them apart didn't work and she grins at him and asks if he's sure about that. She tells him this was her plan all along. Outside Brook Lynn tells Chase to shut up and kiss her and he obliges.
Nina is shocked by Sonny's proposal but turns him down because she thinks it's only because he pities her. He tells her that it's not pity but that he loves her and wants to marry her. She asks him if he had ever thought about marrying her before that night and he tells her has been planning it for a while and shows her the ring he had made for her.
Nina is blown away by his having a ring but is still hesitant. Sonny gets down on one knee and tells her everything she means to him. She tells him that she's worried that one day he will realize that she is more trouble than she's worth. He tells her that will never happen and Nina finally says yes! They go downstairs to celebrate and neither Carly nor Olivia are happy with what they see.
