Julie Dove talks her dreams coming true on Days of Our Lives. Learn more here--->>
Julie Dove, writer, producer, and actor has written and produced for both television and film. Actress Dove has appeared on numerous popular television shows such as The Office, Masters of Sex, and Criminal Minds and has voiced in various projects. Soap Opera News recently had an opportunity to speak with Dove and we are excited to share her story with the soap opera community.
Dove, like many of us, loves the soap opera genre. Also, like many of us, she began watching soaps at an early age with her mom and grandmother. By the time she was a teenager, Dove had been bitten by two bugs. She wanted to be an actor and she wanted to be on a soap opera.
Her journey hasn’t been without its fair share of detours, twists and turns. It took some time for Dove’s dreams to be actualized but her story is a wonderful reminder that a delay is not a denial and that with faith, patience and doing your part, dreams can come true.
Dove went to college at East Texas State University (now Texas A& M University-Commerce) on an acting scholarship. Although her desire to pursue an acting career hadn’t wavered, after graduation Dove wasn’t sure if she was quite ready to take the big plunge. So, she accepted a job as a drama teacher at her high school. It was rewarding teaching the next generation of actors, but Dove came to realize that teaching wasn’t her long-term calling. The next seasons along her journey were seminary school, being a music promoter, and a salesperson for a music media research company.
“Studying to be an ordained minister was a beautiful spiritual experience for me. Then when I worked in the music industry, I met people like Reba McEntire and Mary J. Blige. I traveled. I was wined and dined. I was having the time of my life but there was something missing. I knew what it was. I enrolled in acting classes, moved to Los Angeles, and began auditioning. When you first start out, you audition, audition and audition, and pray for your first break. My break came when I landed my first television role on Happy Endings. It legitimized me. I was in.”
She was in and grateful to be doing what she’d always wanted to do. Yet there was still that thirteen-year-old girl who longed to set her feet on the set of a soap opera. Dove got her first taste performing background work on General Hospital. And she got a second and third taste. “I have appeared on Days of Our Lives twice. The first time my character Connie shared scenes with Billy Flynn (Chad) and Marci Miller (Abby.) It was amazing, but unfortunately, my scene got cut. I was a little devastated. But Days was so nice and put it on YouTube, so I did get a chance to see it.
Last year, I got a call from the show. The head writer at Days, Ron Carlivati, had seen all of the things I had written online about how much it meant to be on the show. There was a need for a character for an upcoming episode and Days wanted it to be Connie. I couldn’t believe it. I started crying. I got my script, and it said Connie with my previous episode number listed on it. I was like, ‘Oh my God!’ This time I shared scenes with Jessica Serfaty (Sloan) and Jasper Newman (Colin.) Having the opportunity to be on Days of Our Lives, not once, but twice was very special and wonderful.”
Fun Facts from Dove’s Second Appearance on Days:
**Dove stood next to Peter Reckell (Bo), dressed as “Shane Donovan,” while waiting to walk on set.
**Dove spoke to Kristian Alfonso (Hope) when she came into the wardrobe department.
**Steve Burton (Harris) gave Dove the wi-fi password.
This year is Dove’s 35th high school reunion. She can’t wait to share her great news with all her high school classmates who heard her say for years, “I am going to be on a soap opera one day.”
As soap fans, we absolutely love this. This is so awesome and two big thumbs up to Days of our Lives for making Dove’s dream come true. Watch Days of Our Lives on Peacock and check out Dove’s episode which aired on May 4, 2023.
We hope to see Connie again!
