Performer of the Week

Anna Devane wore a lot of hats on General Hospital this week. She was in the hospital recovering from a gunshot wound to the chest, she was in super spy mode as she, Robert (Tristan Rogers), and Holly (Emma Samms) tried to figure out Victor’s (Charles Shaughnessy) evil plot and stop Scotty (Kin Shriner) from snitching to the WSB after they had, she was a total badass rescuing her friends at the bunker ‘somewhere in Greenland’, and she was a tortured woman in love watching Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) almost succumb to the pathogen his father had infected him with before finally joining him in the isolation room so he wouldn’t die alone, even if that meant she died right along with him. Anna was all these things and more, and her portrayer, Finola Hughes, was phenomenal, exceptional, brilliant, extraordinary, and every other synonym that exists. She played all of these parts of her character beautifully and never missed a beat. She brought us suspense, comedy, adventure and romance over the course of the week and did it so well that we had no problem suspending disbelief through it all. 

Soaps are known for their over-the-top scenarios and actors like Hughes are why they can do that and stay on the air for generations. No matter how crazy the scenario, Hughes is fully committed to the material and the character that she’s played for almost 40 years and she has the acting chops to pull it off, She plays it all in such a convincing way that we actually hold our breath when her life’s in danger and cheer out loud when she bursts through a door with her gun drawn, ready to save the day and when something makes Anna cry, Hughes makes us cry right along with her. Experiencing something that leaves you a sobbing mess is not usually a good thing, but one of the exceptions is when it happens while witnessing Finola Hughes deliver another knockout performance. That’s why we keep tuning in, for her to break our hearts in such a wonderfully entertaining way and why we’ve named her our Performer of the Week this week! Congratulations Finola, please never stop making us hold our breath, laugh, gasp, cheer and ugly cry!

Days of Our Lives

Roman Brady learned that Kate is actually alive but now just needs to find her. Harris, Steve and Chad teamed up to do so. As Kayla and Stephanie returned to town they ran into Alex who wasted no time apologizing for his mistake. Alex also got a chance to prove himself when Maggie left him in charge of Titan to go on business out of town. Sloan spilled the beans to EJ letting him know that Eric and Nicole slept together. Eric and EJ had a nasty confrontation. Nicole was rushed to the hospital as she was feeling pain and learned from Kayla that she is pregnant. Talia and Chanel went on their first date. Brady and Chloe said their goodbyes and Alex broke things off with Gwen. 

General Hospital

The rescue mission was filled with a lot of twists and turns. Victor had Liesl inject Valentin as her test subject. Hallucinating, he saw Helena who came to take him to hell. Curtis, Drew and Laura worked their way in on the Haunted Star. Michael told Willow the truth about him going against Sonny and she fainted. She was rushed to the hospital where he asked to see Nina. She requested that Nina leave Carly alone. Dex told Josslyn about his latest move. The Haunted Star exploded with a couple persons on board. 

The Bold and the Beautiful

Steffy saw something she wish she didn't see. She wasted no time confronting Hope about flirting with Thomas. At his father's request, RJ drew a painting. Carter and Katie had a talk after her "date" with Bill. Bill remained adamant that he wants to reunite with Katie. Liam told Wyatt about his talk with Thomas and Hope got affected by modeling a design for Thomas. Jack returned but he turned Sheila down with her offer and Steffy told Finn about her visit with Sheila. Deacon called in the big guns as he wanted major success for Il Giardino. 

The Young and the Restless

Diane got her second chance. She got bailed and was released with an ankle monitor. People gathered at the Jazz Lounge for a celebration to honor Neil. Abby learned that her mother had Tucker moved into the mansion. Summer told Daniel the whole truth and nothing but. He wasn't too pleased with his sister. Connor learned that his dad is having a baby with Sally. Victor approached Sally with a shocking ultimatum which she later told Nick about. Elena contacted J.T. and then made a big decision. She went to LA and confronted Nate and Victoria. There she learned that they slept together and she broke up with Nate.

We had a week filled with outstanding performances which include; James Patrick Stuart as Valentin Cassadine on General Hospital, Brytni Sarpy as Elena Dawson on Y&R, Allison Lanier as Summer on Y&R, and Michael Graziadei as Daniel on Y&R. Congrats on getting the honorary mentions this week!
