The Young and the Restless recap for May 12, 2023:

In today's episode of The Young and the Restless, Michael catches a break defending Diane, Daniel struggles with a moral dilemma, and Devon makes up for lost time with Harmony.

Daniel texts Jack, urging him to meet because there is something he needs to know. Tucker appears and prevents him from leaving.  Jack begins ranting about Tucker persuading Diane to leave. He simply wanted to assist. Tucker responds no when Jack asks if Ashley put him up to it. Diane's return to Genoa City hasn't helped her, he notes. Even if she is declared innocent, many will not survive her presence.

Daniel approaches Michael at Crimson Lights, asking him to accompany him somewhere. He says a lawyer is needed, and he's the best in town, but Michael notes that he is preoccupied with Diane's case. Daniel claims this is all about proving she did not murder Phyllis. Michael's curiosity is piqued and he now follows him over to the Abbott estate.

Johnny and Billy are waiting for Connor at Society. He believes Connor has been avoiding him at school, which can only suggest that something is going on that he is unaware of. Billy confirms Adam's having a baby with Sally. When they arrive, Connor discovers that Billy informed Johnny about the new baby. Connor is still not happy about it. Billy decides to go for a stroll with Connor in order to persuade him to open up. Johnny follows suit in an attempt to assist Connor, who is annoyed that everyone is still talking about the new baby. 

Harmony pays Dominic and Devon a visit in the penthouse. They discuss Tucker, and Harmony encourages him to give his father another chance. He inquires whether Harmony is truly comfortable with him changing his surname to Winters. She has no objections.  Tucker arrives, delighted to see Harmony and Devon together. Harmony believes Devon should return to his calling, and Tucker concurs. They feel fortunate as Devon caters to the infant and they listen to Devon sing to Dominic.

Kyle returns home, and he and Jack debate Summer's disappearance. When Daniel and Michael arrive, Kyle inquires as to what is going on. Daniel is relieved to find that Summer is not at home. He isn't sure if she is prepared for what he is about to say. "Phyllis is still alive," he tells them as they are all shocked. Daniel claims he received a phone call from someone asking him to meet them in the park and it was Phyllis. Daniel then tells them how Stark coerced and manipulated his mother into faking her death and blaming Diane. Daniel informs everyone that the collapse wasn't real. He says Stark attacked her.

She did what she had to do and grabbed a pair of scissors. They are stunned to learn that she murdered Stark. When Michael wonders where Phyllis is, Daniel says he doesn't know. Michael inquires about the proof, but there is none. Jack claims that they can obtain CCTV footage of her. Kyle gets eager to inform Summer but Daniel asks him not to. He lies saying it is because he doesn't want her to be hurt since Phyllis came to him instead of her. Jack exclaims that Phyllis put them through misery just to put Diane in jail.

He can't believe Phyllis did exactly what Diane did after all her raving about it. Daniel stands up for his mother  They must find her, says Jack. Daniel believes Jack merely wants her imprisoned. It is noted that Daniel could be charged with aiding and abetting and obstructing justice. Jack wants to phone Christine, but Michael tells him not to since they need to take things slowly.
