The Young and the Restless recap for May 4, 2023:
In today's episode of The Young and the Restless: Victoria and Nate receive a reality check, Diane looks forward to a second chance, and Tucker works to regain Devon’s trust.
Daniel asks Summer to repeat herself in Chancellor Park. Summer doubles down on her statement that their mom is indeed still alive? Phyllis told her that Stark attempted to kill her and that she had to defend herself by killing him with the scissors. She reveals to him that their mother pretended to die in order to get revenge against Diane. Summer says, "She explained everything to me." Daniel finds it difficult to comprehend. Where is she now? he queries. Summer is clueless. Daniel is furious because he cannot believe she just let them grieve in such a way. Summer is merely attempting to concentrate on her survival.
She claims that Stark coerced her into supporting his scheme, but Daniel has his doubts. In a fit of weakness, according to Summer, she gave in, and everything went wrong. She regrets it and is concerned there is no other option. She is not blameless. She was battling with them and seeking retribution against Diane. "And you're okay with all of this?" shouts Daniel. Summer sulks. She was unable to hide this from him. They both agree that she will go to jail if she cannot show that killing Stark was done in self-defense.
They must defend her. Daniel fears they won't be able to. Then Summer believes they should let her go so they can start over. "What about Diane?" asks Daniel. He wonders if Summer is ok with her being locked up for a murder that didn't happen. Daniel loses his cool when Summer wonders whether it's so awful that they take a break from Diane while they figure out how to support their mother. That repulses him, and he doesn't think it's right. Daniel wants to go to the cops. There has to be an alternative, claims Summer. Daniel is calling the police even though he is concerned for both women. Summer shouts, “No!” and Daniel departs.
In prison, Michael visits Diane. As they talk about Kyle and Jack's genuine concern for helping her get through this, Michael is in good spirits. He lets her know that she would be released, hopefully, by the end of the day. Judge Bets will preside over the second arraignment, and he is confident that everything will go according to plan. Even Diane's attire was brought by him, courtesy of Jack. He cautions that bail won't be inexpensive. Diane is aware that she could go home today.
When Ashley confronts Jack about calling his bank to obtain a cashier's check, he snarls that it is none of her concern, especially in light of her most recent stunt, inviting Tucker to move in. Ashley reminds him that it's more than simply their home and wonders how Tucker's living there affects Jack. According to Jack, he gets under his skin and is a stranger to the other members of the family. What should Harrison call him? "Aunt Ashley's friend?" she suggests. Diane might come home later, Jack informs her. Ashley understands why he asked for a cashier's check for that reason. She rushes off, snarking that Diane is a flight risk and calls this her house rather than Diane's.
Devon is visited by Tucker at Chancellor-Winters. He wants to go out for coffee so they can talk things out. Devon declines, so Tucker informs his son that he sold his business to Victor. Devon is happy. Is he relocating? Because of him and Dom, Tucker is staying. He wants to create a new bond and share information about the new International Neil Winters Jazz Festival that he will organize. Devon objects to his father doing this and making the presentation himself. Tucker apologizes. He backs off before admitting that he now lives with Ashley. Devon wonders if Abby knows and expresses his surprise. His father is uncertain. Devon invites his father to the event this evening.
Nate and Victoria discuss their projects while they are in Los Angeles. She claims that he pleased her in every way, even with his presentation. He agrees that they make a terrific team and is in a pleasant mood, but he has something to say. Elena approaches and notices the couple. Victoria puts her hand in his as they talk about how Nate wants to concentrate on his work Elena observes. "So, this is what a business trip looks like?" asks Elena as she approaches their table.
Nate asks Victoria to stop talking when she begins to ramble. Elena requests that Nate tell her what's going on between them. Victoria leaves. Nate groans. Victoria and I slept together, he tells her. Elena grabs the closest glass of water and flings it at him. She describes him as pathetic. He claims he didn't mean to have sex with Victoria and that it's still business. Elena reminds him that he said he was traveling alone. She actually had this suspicion from the start.
When Victoria comes back, Nate claims nothing positive occurred. He acknowledges not informing Elena about their traveling together. He asserts that he would never intentionally mislead Elena. Victoria has a sneaking suspicion that this is what he wanted. Victoria questions whether he is truly as content in his relationship as he portrays. She assures him that she in no way intended to harm Elena. Maybe he needs some time to reflect. He nods and departs with a dejected expression.
He tries to refute this, saying, "You got this all wrong." She queries why he holds her in such low regard. Maybe he ought to. She believes herself to be a fool. She claims he gaslighted her, but he also refutes it. She queries whether his efforts to win her over were an attempt to atone for his wrongdoing. He denies. He adores her. She claims that once their relationship with Devon fell apart, his relatives accused him of turning cold and selfish. She stood up for him. Elena does not share his conviction that he is a good man. She advises him to check into his hotel room with his boss and go to hell. She declares, "It's over," and walks away.
Ashley complains to Tucker at Society about her altercation with Jack and the possibility that Diane would be granted bail. Over a cup of coffee in the morning, Tucker thinks it'd be fun to run into Diane. He acknowledges telling Devon he was moving in with her. Ashley is a little frustrated that Abby is still in the dark. She concurs with his description of them as delightfully complex. She shrugs when Tucker asks whether she needs a date to Neil's party.
Michael arrives by himself at the Abbott residence. Diane suddenly enters and leaps into Jack's arms. They chuckle. Michael is deemed brilliant by Jack and Diane. Diane is under house arrest during the trial. She gives Jack her passport and expresses gratitude for the bail. While they kiss, Michael beams. After he leaves, they resume discussing marriage and how Jack would never want to lose her.
