Spoilers for Days of Our Lives on June 12, 2023: Gwen conducts her interview with Dimitri. Maggie interrupts Xander and Chloe to offer Xander a job. Bonnie blabs to Justin. On the one-year anniversary of Abigail’s death, Chad pays her gravesite a visit. Stephanie opens up to Alex about Chad.
Days of Our Lives Episode Recap for June 12, 2023: Chad Mourns Abigail
Dimitri and Leo are shocked to come face to face. Leo tries to pretend that he doesn't know who he is but Dimitri is not happy with him and tells Leo he wants his revenge. Leo calls loudly for Gwen's help when Dimitri grabs him and Gwen runs out of the bathroom and threatens to call the police if Dimitri doesn't let him go and call a truce. As Dimitri is fuming he gets a text from his mother asking how everything is going. He begrudgingly tells Gwen he will call a truce with Leo and apologizes to him.
After Leo leaves Dimitri suggests that Gwen conducts the interview over lunch in her room. She's hesitant but agrees when he tells her that it will give them more privacy to talk without interruption. As they eat Dimitri paints his childhood as similar to Gwen's and tells her that he's realized that the bad things he has done were really done out of a longing for unconditional love. Gwen understands that and feels a kinship with him. Dimitri tells her that he was in love before but kept getting hurt so he ended it and mentions overhearing her and Kristen talking about Xander. Gwen tells him that she's surprised by how similar they are.
At The Spectator office, Chloe thrills Xander with a large ad-buy she secured for the paper. They flirt and he's about to kiss her when Maggie interrupts them. She tells Xander that she's there to offer him Alex's old job at Titan. They talk about it for a few minutes and Xander tells Maggie that he has to think about it but will let her know soon. After she leaves he talks to Chloe about why he's torn over what to do but ultimately decides to stay at The Spectator and turn down Maggie's job offer.
Chloe is touched that he wants to stay for her and they are kissing when Leo walks in looking for his paycheck. Xander gives it to him and then leaves to go tell Maggie his decision. After he's gone Leo tells Chloe that Gwen is on a date. She's confused because she thought it was an interview but Leo tells her that it is but anything can happen. Chloe tells Leo that she hopes Gwen does find someone and moves on because it will be easier on her and Xander. Leo questions her about the Sarah issue but Chloe is unconcerned. She tells him that Sarah moved away and Xander has let her go. Leo warns her that Sarah was always an issue for Xander and Gwen which gives Chloe pause.
Bonnie is reassuring Sarah on the phone that she will not tell anyone about her pregnancy. After she hangs up Justin comes in and is delighted to find his wife home. They talk about her visit with Mimi and Emily and Bonnie shows him the pictures she took. He asks about the rest of her trip and she's evasive which makes him suspicious. He questions her until she finally breaks down and tells him about Sarah being pregnant with Xander's baby.
Bonnie swears Justin to secrecy and tells him that Sarah doesn't want anyone to know she's pregnant, including Maggie. Maggie walks in at the very end and asks her who is pregnant and why can't she know. Bonnie lies and tells her that it's Mimi and she doesn't want anyone to know until she's further along. Maggie understands and congratulates Bonnie on becoming a grandmother again, telling her that she wishes she could.
After Maggie leaves Justin teases Bonnie about her lie before going to work. Bonnie gives herself a pep talk, saying that she can keep the secret from everyone else as long as she can avoid Xander. Right after she finishes talking to herself, Xander walks into the room looking for Maggie.
Chad calls Stephanie and tells her that he won't be able to make it to their work meeting because he has something to do. After he hangs up he lays flowers on Abigail's grave for the one-year anniversary of her death. He talks to her for a few minutes and is surprised when Julie comes over with flowers of her own for Abigail. She offers to leave him alone but Chad asks her to stay.
Chad and Julie chat about the kids and then their conversation turns to Abigail and his new relationship with Stephanie. He tells Julie about his conversation with Abigail after she died and the guilt he is feeling over moving on. Julie assures him that Abigail would want him to be happy and that he's not doing anything wrong by dating Stephanie. They talk about his wedding ring and he admits that he worries that taking it off will make things too final for him.
Julie tells him that Abigail will always be in his heart no matter if he wears the ring or not and asks if he thinks it may be holding him back. Chad concedes that it might be and Julie advises him to take it off before leaving him alone to finish his visit with Abigail in private. Chad sits by her grave and plays with his ring for a moment before tearfully sliding it off and vowing that he will love her forever.
Alex shows up at Stephanie's apartment to tell her about his new job. She's surprised that he turned down Maggie's job offer but is happy for him either way. They have tea and talk about Chad. Alex mentions that he still wears his wedding ring and says that Stephanie lives in Abigail's shadow. He quickly apologizes and corrects himself, telling her that he admires how understanding she is with Chad. Stephanie accepts his apology. Later after he has left Chad shows up and apologizes for not being there for the meeting. He tells her that he went to see Abigail and Stephanie is understanding. Chad kisses her and then they talk about the meeting. Stephanie notices that he's taken his ring off and smiles.
