Performer of the Week
We don't get to see Real Andrews play Marcus Taggert on General Hospital enough. He originated the role in 1996 and has played him on and off since then, sadly less in recent years. There was a lot of fan outcry about him not being included in the recent storyline where his daughter Trina (Tabyana Ali) was kidnapped by Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy) and an international manhunt followed. Taggert's a cop and has also worked for the DEA so it was a mystery as to why he wasn't involved but that was then and he is certainly involved in Trina's story now!
In February it was revealed that Trina might not be Marcus's biological child and this week the paternity test results came in and we found out that she is not. Her biological father is Curtis (Donnell Turner) and she was conceived when they had an affair 20+ years ago. Through this entire ordeal, Marcus has assured Trina that no matter what she is his baby girl and nothing will ever change how he feels about her. He has stood by her and supported every decision she has made throughout and this week reassured her again as they waited for the results to be delivered.
Marcus and Trina were both devastated when she opened the envelope but he held it together long enough to support Curtis and get onto the elevator. What followed was some of the best acting I have seen on soaps this year. In less than a minute Real had the audience in tears as he wordlessly showed us every bit of what Marcus was feeling as he processed that Trina was not his daughter. His anger and pain were evident but not over the top and I could have watched an entire episode of just him in that space. As I said at the start, we do not see him enough and I hope that changes. Andrews gives everything to this character and, in turn, the GH audience. He takes whatever they hand him and turns it into gold like we saw him do this week and that is why Real Andrews is our Performer of the Week. Congratulations Real!
