The Bold and the Beautiful brings awareness to water safety and drowning. Partnering with the Red Cross, the CBS daytime drama is raising awareness about one of the leading causes of death for children. Following the airing of the episode on July 31, 2023, Tanner Novlan, who plays Finn, shared in a PSA that, "10 people die each day in the U.S from accidental drowning". The actor encouraged viewers to contact the Red Cross or visit their website to learn how they and their families can safely enjoy the water this summer.
In story, while Finn (Tanner Novlan) had to take an important call, Kelly (Sophia Paras McKinlay) ran to the ocean to get some water but was drawn in by the ocean current. Luckily, Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) was there and acted quickly to rescue Kelly from the water.
It only takes a moment for a child or weak swimmer to drown, the same time it takes to reply to a text, check a fishing line, or apply sunscreen. Drownings can occur every day in home pools and hot tubs, at the beach, in oceans, lakes, rivers, and streams, as well as in bathtubs and even buckets. The Red Cross believes that by improving water competency, which includes swimming skills, water safety knowledge, and helping others, water activities can be made safer and just as enjoyable.
