Days of Our Lives Episode Recap July 12, 2023: Rafe Gets Fired!
Kayla sees Kate at the Pub and tells her that Marlena broke through Harris's brainwashing. Kate is happy about that and confides in Kayla that she asked Harris to take care of Megan to get her out of their lives. Kayla admits that she shares her feelings about Megan which surprises Kate. She asks Kayla not to say anything to Roman but Kayla encourages her to tell him the truth and thinks he will understand.
In the Square, Chanel is setting up her breakfast sample display outside of Sweet Bits when a man comes up and introduces himself as Clint Rawlings. He tells her that he was the deputy mayor but is now acting mayor since Abe has died. He insults Chanel and Paulina and tells her that if it was up to him Sweet Bits would still be closed. He warns Chanel that if she has another incident he will make sure she never does business in Salem again.
Wendy tells Tripp and Johnny that she has made her decision. She asks Tripp to let her talk to Johnny alone and promises to text him after she is done. Tripp leaves and Johnny assumes that Wendy has chosen him. She tells him that she thinks he still has feelings for Chanel and that is part of why she chose Tripp but not the only reason. Johnny tries to convince her that he is over Chanel but Wendy is sure of her choice.
Jada goes to Steve and Kayla's apartment to express her condolences about Abe's death and they chat for a while until Tripp arrives. Jada leaves them alone to talk and Tripp tells his father that Wendy chose Johnny and he's not happy about it. Steve encourages his son to fight for her if he wants to be with her and they talk about how that sort of thing has changed since Steve was young.
Tripp leaves, determined to win Wendy back and when Kayla gets home, Steve fills her in on their talk. When Tripp gets home, he is happy to find out that Wendy has actually chosen him and not Johnny like he had originally thought. Chanel gets a call from Allie but as they are catching up she sees Johnny and can tell that he is upset. She gets off the phone and goes over to find out what's wrong. He tells her that Wendy chose Tripp.
At the hospital Harris explains to Marlena that he still feels like he is a danger to others and until he is sure he needs to be committed. She tells him that she disagrees with him but that if he wants to, then he can commit himself. Harris tells her that he wants her to do it so that he can't just check himself out without approval. Marlena tries to convince him that he isn't the bad guy but he is unswayed. Finally, she agrees to do as he asks. When she leaves to do the paperwork, Kate comes to visit him and he tells her what he has decided. Kate apologizes for her part in everything but Harris tells her that it's not her fault.
At the Salem PD, Shawn and Rafe argue about Shawn's suspension. Shawn throws Rafe sleeping with Jada in his face and tells him that he knows it's true because he overheard Jada telling Kate. While they are arguing about it, the acting mayor overhears them and steps in to ask his own questions. Shawn tries to walk it back but Rawlings doesn't believe him. Jada arrives and Rawlings ushers her into an office to question her.
Shawn tries to apologize to Rafe but he doesn't want to hear it. He tells Shawn that he is still suspended and demands his badge and his gun. Shawn goes to the hospital after and approaches Marlena. He confesses to her that he was suspended and asks for her help with his problem. At the PD, Jada comes out of the office and tells Rafe it didn't go well. Rawlings tells Rafe that Jada admitted that they are involved. Rafe tells Rawlings that he has no authority to punish Jada and Rawlings tells him that he's not going to. Rawlings tells Rafe that he has the authority to appoint the police commissioner and tells Rafe that he is fired and demands his badge and gun.
