Congrats to Miranda Wilson (Megan, Days of Our Lives) who was chosen as the performer of the week...
Performer of the Week
There is no denying it, Miranda Wilson is a powerhouse. She is phenomenal. She IS Days of Our Lives' Megan DiMera. Could anyone else ever play this role as deliciously as Wilson does? My answer to that is absolutely not. The fact that she stepped so flawlessly back into the role after 37 years is nothing short of amazing and the fun she had doing it was evident in every scene.
Usually with villains, especially villains that threaten beloved super couples like Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope (Kristian Alfonso), the audience roots for their comeuppance, and even demise, but not with Megan. Much like with her character's father, the evil Stefano DiMera, who was played by the late Joseph Mascolo, Days fans actually rooted for Megan to come out on top, or to at least escape punishment and live to see another day. And this week, that was exactly what Megan did.
Sadly she will be doing it offscreen for the foreseeable future but thankfully, Wilson has teased that Days fans haven't seen the last of Megan DiMera. She may have escaped in a submarine with the help of her evil mad scientist Rolf (Richard Wharton), but she hopefully returns soon to wreak more havoc on the "good" citizens of Salem.
Wilson didn't leave without gifting us some final amazing scenes though. From Megan's innuendo-laden speech at the engagement party that she had planned for her brother Stefan (Brandon Barash) and his fiance Gabi (Camilla Banus), to her feigned fear that the hitman she had brainwashed into killing her brother was actually there to kill her, to her shock and collapse after he accidentally shot her instead, and then culminating with her waking up handcuffed to her hospital bed with her son Dimitri (Peter Porte) sitting vigil by her side, Miranda delivered for Day fans in spades.
The audience knew that Megan had done every single thing she was being accused of, and more, but who didn't find themselves feeling for her and even buying into her justifications and claims of innocence? Not every actor can convincingly play a villain, and even fewer can play a villain that the audience roots for, Wilson can and this week that fact was made irrefutable and that is why we have named Miranda Wilson our Performer of the Week. Days fans were blessed to have her back and we eagerly await her return. Congratulations Miranda and please hurry home to Salem!
