The Young and the Restless Recap for Thursday, July 20, 2023:
Today on The Young and the Restless, Billy covers for Jack, Ashley and Tucker plot their next move, and Christine spars with Phyllis.
Y&R Recap Today
Diane and Ashley have a conversation in the Abbott mansion. They both strive to be nice to one another. Ashley reminds her that Phyllis has returned and will most likely not face any prison time. She knows what she did must have made Diane's blood boil. She brags about Phyllis already being out on bail and without wearing an ankle monitor. Diane is confident that Christine will hold Phyllis accountable for her actions. Diane asserts that she has learned to live and let live. She believes Ashley would be happier if she followed suit. Ashley wishes she could forget about her, but she is everywhere. Diane departs, urging her not to take Tucker's love for granted.
Tucker interrogates Phyllis at Society about her intention to undermine Diane. He believes that winning Jack and Kyle will be crucial. He proposes going for symmetry and causing Diane's head to explode. She requests a second to work things out because she recently obtained bail. He reminds her of how much she owes him. Phyllis assures him that he can rely on her, and he reiterates his threat to expel Carson. She realizes he's calling the shots and says she'll do whatever he asks. When she inquires about his plan to bring down Jabot, he declines to talk about it.

Diane enters the room. He's hoping for a catfight, but Diane says that's unlikely. She sits and greets Phyllis, saying she looks great. Diane claims they were both victims of Stark, which is why she isn't after her and wants to move on. Phyllis is taken aback. Diane understands why she is skeptical. Tucker is becoming irritated. He commands Diane to tell Phyllis how she truly feels. Diane advises him to remain out of it, presuming he wants Phyllis as an ally in his fight against her. She believes Phyllis has more serious concerns. Diane is thanked by Phyllis for her compassion and empathy.
Christine is sitting in the GCAC contemplating Phyllis's prior crimes and their battle over Danny. She receives a call on Phyllis' release and how it is being reported in the press. Phyllis appears. Phyllis believes she will do everything in her power to imprison her. Christine asserts that she will pursue the case reasonably. They argue about Christine's bias against her. The evidence is based on one man's testimony. She wonders whether there is anything else she needs to say after Phyllis waited weeks before coming forward. Phyllis claims she was brainwashed by a deranged man and returned because of her conscience. Christine believes she would not have returned if she didn't believe she could get away with it. Something isn't right, and she's determined to figure out what it is.

At the Abbott estate, Brian contacts Ashley from New York, and she is taken aback when he tells her what Jack did. Billy soon comes and they catch up on all the family news. He is perplexed as to why she has summoned him. She inquires as to why Jack fled to New York. He denies any knowledge of it, and they dispute her plans to leave Jabot and what she intends to take with her. Billy claims that they will retaliate in kind to any aggressive move. Tucker arrives as he is about to depart. Billy will never get used to the fact that he has a key to the house. Tucker inquires as to what he has missed. She tells him of Jack's journey to New York. Tucker has already begun going over her contracts and putting lawyers to work on them. He shifts the subject to their wedding and reminds her that they should do it sooner rather than later. She does not believe now is the time. He believes that getting married is the best option for them to disengage from her family business.
They talk about Phyllis and Diane's encounter. He almost expected them to hug it out, but he believes it was all staged. He still wants to talk about the wedding. She can't handle it right now. That doesn't sit well with him. She emphasizes that she no longer wants to use their wedding as a weapon. Ashley says that she wants to marry him for real since she is falling in love with him. He's not sure if this is genuine. She only wants positive feelings. If this is true, he is overjoyed. She gives him a kiss.
Billy enters Society and discovers Diane sitting alone. They discuss Phyllis' discharge, and she tells him that everything is under control. He informs her that Ashley has been questioning him about Jack's visit to New York. If she is serious about not backing down from Jabot, they may want her assistance. She's not leaving, and no one will harm their family company.
