Bob Barker, the iconic American game show host and animal rights activist, passed away on Saturday morning at his home in L.A. due to natural causes, according to his representative.
Throughout Barker’s groundbreaking career, he clocked 26 Daytime Emmy nominations, 18 Daytime Emmy wins, and was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999. NATAS President and CEO Adam Sharp shared this statement, “Bob Barker was a Daytime television mainstay for generations. He helped to define the game show genre, cementing the Price is Right as a powerhouse format that has remained essentially unchanged for more than half a century. You don’t mess with perfection. His championship of the craft and for animal welfare were equal in their exuberance. His presence will be missed greatly by the Emmy community.”
Robert Barker, an American TV game show host, is known for hosting CBS's The Price Is Right for 35 years, making it the longest-running daytime game show in North American TV history. He also hosted Truth or Consequences from 1956 to 1975. Barker started his career in the United States Navy Reserve during World War II. In 1950, he moved to California and began his broadcasting career. He hosted various game shows, the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants, and became an advocate for animal rights activism.
