General Hospital Episode Recap August 23, 2023: Trina Puts Spencer on the Spot
Sasha is rocking back and forth on her bed and moaning when Gladys comes in and is shocked by her condition. She asks Nurse Janice what is wrong with her and the nurse says she is going through withdrawals. She tells Gladys that Sasha has been using drugs again and Gladys is confused because no one else is allowed to see her. Janice tells Gladys that the medical and custodial staff can see her and addicts find a way to get their drugs.
Gladys tries to talk to Sasha and asks if she knows who she is. Sasha does but asks her if Brando is coming and Gladys has to tell her that Brando died. Sasha tells her that she doesn't understand what is happening and that everything hurts. Dr. Montague comes in and Gladys demands to know what he did to her. She demands that Sasha be released but the doctor says Sasha is a mess and is in no condition to be released.
Gladys blames him and demands he fix it. He tells her that when Sasha is released she could go to prison. Gladys says that all of it has to stop and he demands $50,000 to do it. Gladys tells him that she doesn't have that much money and he points out that Sasha does. Gladys argues that it's not liquid and she has to sell stock and that takes time. The doctor says that Sasha is not getting out of Ferncliff until he gets his money.
After Gladys leaves the doctor tells Sasha that he has sympathy for her. Sasha asks where Gladys is and he tells her that Gladys went to save her and for her sake, she better hope Gladys comes through.
Nurse Deanna greets Stella warmly at GH and welcomes her back to work. Stella tells her that her family needs her in town to help out so she might as well make some money while she's there. She goes to talk to a patient's daughter and Felicia watches her with interest. Deanna tells Felicia that Stella is the best patient advocate that GH has.
Felicia watches Stella get information for the patient's daughter and comforts her. She smiles when she sees how relieved the girl is as she hugs Stella and thanks her. After the girl goes to see her mother Felicia approaches Stella and compliments her and asks her about her job. Stella tells her what the job entails and warns her that not all patients can be helped.
Felicia confides in Stella that she is looking to change careers and wants to give back to the community, especially GH. Stella encourages her to become a patient advocate and Felicia fills out an application for the job.
Ava is working at the art gallery and hears a noise. She grabs a heavy office tool, prepared to bash whoever it is with it but sees that it's Trina, just in time. Trina asks her how Avery is because she heard that she was sick. Ava panics until Trina tells her that Joss heard it from the new nanny and doesn't like her. Ava tells her that she thinks she and Sonny should give Pilar another chance and then asks how Trina is doing and how Spencer is.
Trina tells Ava that she has to ask Esme about that. Ava and Trina talk about the situation with Spencer living with Esme for Ace. Trina doesn't like it but she understands and doesn't blame Spencer for wanting to take care of his little brother. She tells Ava that the situation with her mom and dad has made her see how important family is. Neither of them knows Spencer is in the hall listening to them.
Spencer comes in and compliments the new artist's artwork. Ava leaves them alone to talk. After she is gone Spencer asks about the exhibit and Trina says they have much better things to talk about before they kiss. They talk about Spencer living with Esme and Ace and he tells her that he hopes it improves when Laura gets back. Trina vents to him about what is going on with her mom and dad and Spencer holds her to comfort her as she cries.
Spencer tells Trina to not count Curtis out and thinks he will get better and do right by Portia. Spencer tells her that it's not on her and she has to let them deal with it themselves and just stand by them. Spencer is happy to see Trina smile and she tells him she is going to take his advice. She thanks him and then asks about how things are going with Esme. He asks what she means and she asks if he is still going to live there when Laura gets back.
Anna goes to meet Sonny at Pozzulo's and apologizes for being in jeans but she lost everything in the fire. He tells her that he's sorry that her house burned down and that he's been cooking a special lunch for them all day. They eat together and Anna compliments him on his cooking before asking who taught him.
Sonny tells her that he taught himself and Anna comments that she likes to cook as well but hasn't in a long time. She talks to him about her feelings around the fire and says that she keeps reminding herself that the most important thing is that no one was hurt. It could have been much worse if Robin or the kids were visiting or if Charlotte was home.
Sonny tells her that someone wants to take everything away from her. She tells Sonny that whoever is trying to ruin her life is doing a pretty good job. Sonny asks if she knows who it is that's after her and she doesn't know. She tells him that she is working with Dante and they don't even know if she was the target of the shooting yet. There could still be someone after him too.
Sonny wants to put guards on her but she says Dante is looking out for her. He doesn't think that's enough but she still refuses. Anna tells him that she appreciates his friendship and Sonny finally backs down and tells her he will back off about it. He tells her that he is there and available if he needs help. Anna tells him that she knows he has his own issues and he tells her that he can handle it.
After Anna leaves Ava comes in and asks if there is any news about who Mason and Austin's boss is and he tells her that he's working on it. Sonny asks if she is working on things from her end. Ava tells him about her conversation with Austin and Sonny asks if she thinks they will really just hand Nik's body over to her and lose all of their leverage? Ava tells him that she thinks Austin really wants to help her. She asks what happens if Sonny's plan works and he finds the boss. He says he will deal with them.
Marshall is at the MetroCourt pool waiting for Stella when Selina Wu approaches him wanting to revisit her offer to buy the Savoy. Marshall tells her that he already told her that the Savoy is not for sale. Selina thinks he may have just been saying that in front of Curtis since he had already lost so much.
Selina tells him that if he doesn't sell the club to her then it will go under. Marshall asks if she is threatening to make the club go under and she says these things happen. Marshall tells her that he is managing the club and her poker game is done and so are her days of being welcome at the Savoy. He tells her that she doesn't have anything on him and Selina says that everyone has something and all she has to do is find his.
Anna meets Jordan at the pool and tells her that she had lunch with Sonny. Jordan is surprised by how open she is being very open about her friendship with him but Anna says that since she isn't in law enforcement anymore the conflict of interest is gone, like her house. Marshall tells Selina he will do anything he can to protect his son and his interests before telling her to leave.
Gladys runs into Selina at the pool and Selina asks for the next payment. Gladys tells her a hold was put on Sasha's stock but she will get it cleared up quickly. Selina tells her she wants her money, not excuses. Jordan apologizes to Anna for not being able to investigate her fire since she is no longer a police officer but tells her that she is monitoring the case.
Anna thanks her and Jordan asks if she thinks it's connected to Curtis' shooting. Stella joins Marshall and tells him that she has someone new joining her department at GH. Gladys promises Selina that she is good for the money but Selina has doubts. Selina tells her that she is closing down the poker game and all debts are due in full. Anna tells Jordan that she thinks the shooting wasn't connected to the arson. Jordan wishes they had even the smallest lead. She says it would help Curtis if he knew who was responsible.
Carly wonders what Austin is doing at Pentonville and Drew notices that he has his medical bag with him so he assumes that Austin is there to see a patient. Austin is taken into the infirmary and sees that his patient is Cyrus. Carly tells Drew that she wants to concentrate on him and notices Dex walk into the visiting room.
Carly asks Drew if Cyrus's enemies will come after him now and he tells her that they might. Drew tells her that in prison everyone is aligned with someone and that is just how it is in there. Austin gives Cyrus a clean bill of health and tells him that he was lucky that Drew was there to save him. He gives him a daily medication to take and Cyrus asks if he can have a lollipop too.
Carly doesn't think it's fair that Drew has to deal with all of Cyrus's enemies but he tells her that he has no choice. He says that he set something in motion when he saved him and it was too late to stop it. She said they could if they got him out of prison. Dex meets with Book and tells him that he works for Sonny Corinthos and has a message for him.
Cyrus examines the pill bottle that Austin gave him and sees the memory card attached to the lid. Austin tells him that this is the last thing he is doing. He tells him that he is done cleaning up after him and Mason and putting the integrity of GH and innocent people at risk. Austin says that he has more than paid his debt and he wants out.
Dex tells Book that Sonny wants Drew Cain left alone completely and not messed with. Austin tells Cyrus that he hopes Cyrus will be open to ending things because they go way back. He talks about Cyrus being around when he was a kid and thanks him for paying for his education. He tells him that he's grateful but it's enough.
Austin says that Cyrus has manipulated his gratitude and twisted the love he had for him. He tells Cyrus that he made him lie to Ava and tell her that her husband is dead. He says that she deserves to know that Nikolas is alive because he saved his life. Carly tells Drew that she wants to hire Diane to take over his case. She thinks Diane can get him out earlier but Drew tells her that hoping he gets an early release makes it harder to be in prison.
Book tries to explain why he got into it with Drew but Dex says Sonny doesn't want any excuses. Drew is to be left alone. Austin tells Cyrus that he is done and Cyrus tells him to go in peace. Austin asks what he is going to do with the information he just gave him and Cyrus tells him that he will be doing God's work with it.
Dex tells Book that he also has to help Drew if he has any trouble with anyone else. Books says he will but Drew can take care of himself. Carly tells Drew she is going to fight for him and do everything she can to get him out. Drew agrees to let her hire Diane but tells her not to get her hopes up. Carly tells him that no matter what she will be with him. Dex tells Book he will be back to visit soon and will be monitoring him closely. Both Carly and Dex see Austin leave and share a look.
