Spoilers for General Hospital on August 24, 2023: Jordan visits Curtis. Sonny warns Carly. Spencer confides in Trina. Maxie and Lucy deliver bad news. Sam calls out Cody.
General Hospital Episode Recap August 24, 2023: A Tense Encounter for Dante & Valentin
Carly is working at Kelly's when Sonny comes in and tells her he wants answers about her visit to Pentonville. Carly asks what he wants to know and Sonny asks if she saw Austin and if he was with anyone. Carly tells him that she saw him but no one was with him. She asks why he wants to know and he tells her that he doesn't trust him and neither should she.
Carly brings up Austin seeing Ava and isn't surprised because she is a trouble magnet. Carly tells Sonny that Austin had his medical bag so she assumed he was visiting a patient. Sonny thanks her for the information and then asks about her visit with Drew. She confides about Drew going to solitary for protecting Cyrus and her fears about Cyrus's enemies coming after Drew.
Sonny tells Carly that she doesn't have to worry about Book and Carly figures out that was why Dex was there. Carly asks how Dex is and Sonny gives her a vague answer before leaving. He tells her to let him know if she finds out anything else about Austin visiting Pentonville.
Portia is in her office thinking about Curtis when Ava drops by with coffee. Ava asks if there is anything she can do and Portia tells her that she wants to know how Trina is really doing. They talk about Portia's fears about Spencer hurting Trina and Ava tries to assure her that Spencer cares about Trina.
Ava tells her that she should give him a chance for Trina's sake. Portia agrees that Spencer makes Trina happy and says all she can do is be there if Trina needs her. Ava asks about Curtis and Portia confides that she doesn't know where they stand. She tells her about their issues and Ava tells her that she wishes she had advice for her but she doesn't have a good romantic track record herself. Portia vents more to Ava about their problems. Ava suggests that Curtis is pushing her away for her own good and encourages her to keep pushing until he listens and lets her back in.
Spencer tells Trina that he's not sure what's going to happen when Laura gets back because he hasn't thought about it. Trina doesn't like that answer and Spencer tries to explain that he's been so busy concentrating on Ace that he hasn't been able to focus on anything else. Spencer talks to her about his lonely childhood and how he doesn't want Ace to ever feel that way. She reminds him that he isn't Ace's father. He tells her that he knows that but it's up to him to fill the void with Nik gone.
Spencer tells Trina that his best friend was his limo driver Chandler and that he was jealous when he saw the other kids being dropped off by their mothers and getting kissed goodbye. He tells her that Nik abandoned him and Ace. He wishes he could believe Nik was forced to leave but he doesn't. Trina asks why he always thinks the worst of Nik and Spencer says that is all he ever showed him.
Trina reminds Spencer of the happy stories he has told her about him and Nik and he asks her how she knows how to talk him off the ledge. He admits to loving Nik and being scared something has happened to him. Spencer offers to help her work and Trina tells him what they have to do. Before they start work, Esme messages Spencer and asks if he is coming home for dinner.
Trina convinces Spencer that he should go and then Portia shows up right before he leaves. Portia asks about Ace and Spencer says things are good. Portia is happy the parenting classes with Esme are helping. Spencer leaves and Portia tells Trina she just wanted to bring her a dinner to celebrate her first week back to work. Trina is glad she's there.
Trina asks about Curtis and Portia tearfully tells her that she drove to the rehab but couldn't make herself go in because she couldn't deal with him pushing her away again. Trina advises her to give him space and he will come around. Portia isn't sure he will and admits that she doesn't know what to do. Trina hugs her mother.
Curtis is working at the rehab and Roy tells him that he is making incredible progress. Curtis insists on going again even though Roy thinks he should take a break. Jordan comes in and Roy tells her how motivated Curtis is. He leaves them alone to talk and Jordan compliments how far Curtis has come.
Curtis asks if she came to check on his progress and she tells him that she has news, someone burned down Anna's house. She tells him what they know and they share theories about what happened with the fire and the shooting. After Jordan leaves, Roy talks about how beautiful she is and hopes she comes to visit again so he can get to know her.
Roy leaves to check in with his supervisor and a patient with prosthetic legs comes in to do his physical therapy. Curtis wonders if he will ever get as far along as this man is. The man tells Curtis not to compare himself to other patients. He tells him to just concentrate on his own progress and tells him to just live his life to the fullest even if it isn't how he thought it would be.
Lucy is freaking out about something that happened and Maxie is trying to calm her down when Gladys comes in and demands to know why she can't sell Sasha's Deception stock. Brook Lynn comes in and Lucy tells her and Gladys that Deception stock can't be sold because someone is suing them for intellectual property theft of the Deceptor.
Brook Lynn immediately looks guilty and Lucy and Maxie tell them details about the lawsuit. Gladys is desperate to get the freeze lifted on the stocks, lying to them about Sasha needing it for medical bills. Lucy says that someone got their design process and is saying they stole the idea but it all came from her head.
Gladys freaks out and Lucy and Maxie tell her to calm down because there is nothing they can do. Lucy rants about the lawsuit before leaving to find gummies.
Sam is on the couch and Dante comes over and kisses her and tells her that he needs a favor. He wants her to go check on Cody for him. She asks why he can't go and Dante tells her that he thinks Cody will act crazy if he goes. Dante fills her in on what happened with Cody at the PCPD and tells her that he thinks Cody is trying to get committed to Ferncliff to help Sasha. They talk about Mac's take on it and his history with Dominique. Dante is worried Cody will succeed in getting committed and won't be able to get out.
Cody is talking to a horse about Sasha when Mac comes in and Cody immediately starts acting crazy again, yelling at him. Mac tries to talk to him but Cody sticks to his crazy act, holding out his arms and telling Mac to cuff him and take him in. Mac talks to Cody about Dominique and they discuss how she was similar to Sasha. Mac tells him about Dominique's commitment to a mental hospital.
Mac tells Cody that he thought he was his son for a short time and he has to look out for him because Dominique would have wanted him to. Sam comes in and Cody tells both of them to go to hell before going into the back room. Mac vents to Sam about his frustrations in not being able to help him and then tells Sam he has to go but asks her to keep him in the loop.
After Mac leaves Cody comes out and starts his act with Sam but she shuts him down quickly and demands to know what's going on. She rips into him for everything he's been doing and tells him that she knows he's playing. Cody asks her to help him pull it off. Cody tells Sam his plan and she tells him that it won't work. He wants her to help him get committed and she says no way.
Valentin comes to the Penthouse to take Charlotte out for dinner and thanks Dante for letting her stay there. They talk about Anna and the fire and Dante tries to question him about where he was but Charlotte interrupts. Dante goes into the kitchen and Charlotte confides in her father that she misses Lulu. She tells him that Dante took her to see Lulu and she was scared she was never going to recover.
Valentin tells her to go get her backpack so they can leave for dinner. When he's alone with Dante he asks him to not take Charlotte to see Lulu without letting him know first because it is upsetting her. Dante tells him that she asked to go see Lulu and that he was going to take her anytime she wanted without asking Valentin's permission. Valentin leaves with Charlotte without a word.
