Spoilers for Days of Our Lives on Tuesday, September 12, 2023: A shooting rocks Salem. Chanel grapples with her conflicting romantic feelings. Ava and Harris go on the run.
Days of Our Lives Episode Recap Tuesday, September 12, 2023: Johnny & Chanel Reunite
EJ talks to his contact at the hospital to check on his shooter. He rages after he hangs up and Johnny comes in, asking why he's so upset. EJ tells him about Ava's escape and they disagree about Ava again. They agree to change the subject and EJ asks about how things went with Chanel. Johnny tells him that he told her how he felt but then Talia showed up before she could reply so he left.
EJ tells him to go back to Chanel and demand an answer. Johnny says he isn't going to do that. He tells his father that he put himself out there and the next move is hers. EJ encourages him to pursue her but they are interrupted when Chanel calls Johnny and asks him to come over. After Johnny leaves, EJ promises a picture of Ava that one way or another, his mother will be avenged. His contact at the hospital calls him and tells him that his hired gun is awake and being questioned by the police.
Jada goes to the hospital and she's thrilled to see her sister working as a doctor. She takes some pictures of her and then tells her that she's there to question the woman who was shot by Ava. Talia updates Jada on the woman's condition and Jada says she will wait until she wakes up so she can talk to her and find out who hired her to kill Ava.
Jada tells Talia how proud she is of her and Talia tells her that she's dating Chanel and how happy she is with how her life is going. She can't believe how many chances people have given her. Jada questions if she is sure she is ready to date again so soon after Colin but Talia is positive. She tells her sister that she is sure she wants to be with Chanel.
Jada is happy for her sister. Talia gets a page and finds out that the woman who was shot is awake and tells Jada she can talk to her after the doctor checks her out. When the doctor is finished Jada goes in to speak to the woman. She asks her who hired her to kill Ava.
Wendy and Tripp are in bed at the Inn and talking about how they had to make up for all the times they were interrupted. Wendy is concerned about him not having his phone but Tripp tells her that Kayla would let him know if there was an emergency. There's a knock on the door and they think it's room service but it's actually Rafe.
He's there to tell Tripp about Ava's escape and ask if he knows anything. Tripp is shocked because he thought his mother was doing better. Rafe tells him about their suspicions that the woman who was shot was trying to kill Ava and that Ava had shot her in self-defense. Rafe tells him that Harris Michaels helped Ava escape. Rafe says that he knows Tripp hasn't heard from her but if he does then he should encourage her to turn herself in.
Tripp tells him that he thinks it's obvious that EJ was the one who hired the shooter. He tells Rafe about his run-in with EJ and Rafe asks if he made a direct threat. Tripp says no and Rafe tells him that if there is evidence that implicates EJ in a plot to kill Ava then they will find out. Rafe gets a text about a lead and goes to follow up on it. Before he leaves he warns Tripp that since Ava and Harris left Bayview with a gun they are being considered armed and dangerous. After Rafe leaves Wendy reassures Tripp that his mom will be fine but he's still worried.
Paulina is dressed up for her third date with Abe and she updates Chanel about how it's going. Chanel is happy for her mother. Paulina asks how things are going with her and Talia. Chanel tells her that things are good with Talia but that she's feeling conflicted because of Johnny. She confides in Paulina about Johnny telling her that he still has feelings for her and that he wants her back.
Paulina asks Chanel what she said and Chanel tells her that Talia came in before she could answer him. Paulina asks what she would have said if they weren't interrupted. Chanel tries to blow the question off but Paulina pushes. She tells her daughter that she supports her no matter who she wants to be with but admits she would rather see her with Johnny. She tells Chanel that it is her decision though.
Chanel admits that she's mad at Johnny for dropping this on her and she's not sure it's not a rebound because Wendy chose Tripp. Paulina tells her that she doesn't have to decide right now but Chanel thinks she does because she let things drag on too long before and it didn't end well. Paulina is heading out for her date and finds Johnny about to knock.
Paulina leaves and Chanel thanks him for coming over. She tells him that she really likes Talia and that before he told her about his feelings she was looking forward to seeing where things could go. Johnny thinks she is saying she chose Talia and turns to leave but Chanel stops him and tells him that she wants to be with him.
Talia buys flowers in the Square and calls Chanel. She gets her voicemail so she leaves a message telling her that she's coming over and has something special for her. Johnny and Chanel kiss and Chanel doesn't notice the missed call on her phone.
Ava and Harris are in the motel and Harris tells her that they need to find some real food. Ava thinks it's not safe because EJ has people everywhere. Harris questions if it was really EJ but Ava is positive. Ava thinks one failed attempt won't be enough for EJ and she says Rafe hates her so he won't believe it was self-defense. Ava tells him that they have to find Susan and bring her home.
Harris is leaving to go get a burner phone and food when Ava stops him. She thanks him for helping her and tells him that he could have left her to die because she's not his problem. He tells her that she's not a problem and he is glad he was there to help her. Ava is touched and tells him to be careful.
After he's gone Ava sees Susan again but realizes that Susan is using her psychic abilities to communicate with her. When Harris gets back she tells him that Susan told her that she was stuck in the Big Smoke. Harris says that is an old nickname for London and they decide to go there to look for Susan. Harris tells her that he has contacts who can get them tickets and fake passports.
Rafe and a police officer get to the motel and Rafe tells him about the tip they got. Rafe warns the officer that they are armed and do not hesitate to use deadly force. Rafe kicks in the door of the motel room and looks shocked by what he sees.
