Spoilers for Days of Our Lives on Wednesday, September 20, 2023: Rafe puts Tripp in the hot seat. EJ catches Wendy trying to hack into his phone. Jada confronts Talia about her questionable behavior. Johnny and Chanel’s romance blossoms.
Days of Our Lives Episode Recap Wednesday, September 20, 2023: Harris Calms Ava's Fears
Chanel gets home and is surprised to see all the flowers that have been delivered. There's a knock on her door and it's Johnny with more roses. She asks him if it's a special occasion and he reminds her of his promise to take her to the Rose Garden in Florence. Johnny tells her that until he can do it, he wants to bring the roses to her. Chanel starts sneezing because of how many flowers there are but she doesn't let Johnny get rid of any.
She takes an antihistamine and then he surprises her with cannoli. Johnny apologizes for getting them from another bakery but he didn't want to ruin the surprise. Chanel tells him that it's okay because Sweet Bits doesn't sell them anymore. Johnny asks why and she tells him they were Talia's specialty. Johnny wonders if Chanel is really okay with the choice she made but she assures him that she is and that she's just worried that Talia will do something stupid while she is upset.
Johnny and Chanel cuddle on the couch and she falls asleep while they watch a movie. He lays her down and covers her with a blanket. She wakes up a little and apologizes for ruining their date but he tells her they will have plenty of dates before kissing her and leaving. After he leaves she texts Talia to ask how she is.

EJ asks Wendy what she is doing with his phone and she lies and tells him that she was going to bring it to him. EJ doesn't believe her and thinks she was looking for evidence that he tried to have Ava killed. Wendy asks him if she would have found any. EJ tells her that he left the phone on purpose to trap her.
EJ thinks that Tripp put Wendy up to snooping in his office but Wendy tells him that Tripp didn't want her to do it. Wendy tells EJ that she thinks EJ sent the hitwoman after Ava but says he doesn't need to do that because Susan is alive. She tells him about Ava remembering seeing Susan outside of the car before it explodes but EJ doesn't believe her. He questions how she found out what Ava remembered and realizes she has seen Ava since she broke out of Bayview. EJ thinks Wendy knows where Ava is. Wendy tells him that she doesn't and EJ fires her.
Later at the mansion, EJ is surprised to see Johnny home early. He tells Johnny that he fired Wendy and why. EJ tells Johnny about Wendy saying Susan was alive and Johnny wonders if it's true. EJ still doesn't believe it.

Rafe tells Tripp that he is going to charge him with aiding and abetting if he doesn't give him the names on the fake passports. Tripp tries to put Rafe off. When Rafe tells him that he thinks Wendy made the passports Tripp tells him that it was him and he learned how to do it by watching a YouTube video. Rafe doesn't believe him and threatens to send Trask after Wendy. He places a call to her office but Tripp tells him to hang up. Rafe hangs up the phone and tells Tripp that if he tells him where Ava and Harris are then there is no reason for him to go after Wendy.
Later Tripp sees Wendy at the hospital and she tells him what happened with EJ. He feels bad that she got fired but he is sure she will find another job where she won't be working for a murderous bastard. Wendy tells him that she told EJ the truth about Susan. She apologizes but Tripp understands why she did it. He tells her about Rafe questioning him and what he told him.

Jada asks if Talia slept with Shawn and Talia tries to deflect but Jada pushes the questions. Talia admits that she did sleep with him and Jada is horrified by her actions and doesn't understand why she did it when everything was going so well for her. Talia tells her about Chanel dumping her for Johnny. Jada feels bad for her but doesn't understand how she ended up sleeping with Shawn.
Talia tells her what happened between her and Shawn the night before. Jada asks if she was thinking about Belle when she slept with her husband. Talia cries and tells her that she wasn't thinking about anything but feeling better and rages at herself for being so destructive. Jada comforts her and Talia assures her that she and Shawn know they made a mistake.
Talia feels bad for disappointing her sister again but Jada tells her that she is not ashamed of her and is proud of her being a doctor. They hug and Talia leaves so Jada can sleep. Before she goes Jada tells her that she will find someone who loves her for who she is. After Talia leaves Rafe shows up and asks Jada if she wants to go to London with him to follow up on the lead on Ava and Harris.

Belle asks Shawn where he slept and he tells her the lie about crashing in Jada and Talia's room while they were both working. Belle is happy he found somewhere safe but tells him how worried she was when she didn't hear from him. Shawn apologizes for worrying her and for everything he said to her during their fight. He tells her that he doesn't deserve her but Belle says they have both made mistakes.
She tells him they are going to get through everything together and can't let anyone come between them. Shawn confides in her about his inability to break the cycle he's in and she asks where they go from there. He admits he has a problem and that it's too big to handle on his own. Belle has doubts about his sincerity. He tells her that he will call Brady and go to a meeting right then but she tells him about Brady's trip to Greece.
He asks her to go to a meeting with him and Belle agrees. As they are leaving the Square they run into Talia. Belle asks how it went with Chanel and Talia tells her that they broke up. Belle expresses her sympathies and Talia tells her that she is the last person who should be sorry.
