Y&R Recap September 18, 2023: A Takeover and An Unexpected Kiss

The Young and the Restless Recap for Monday, September 18, 2023:

Today on The Young and the Restless, Victor sends a powerful message when his iconic portrait returns to his office, Adam gives into temptation, and Nikki does damage control.

At Society, Victoria and Nate discuss her imminent dinner with Nikki. Victoria tells Nate that she is anxious about the dinner because she is worried about her father. Nate questions if she really is worried or if she's just angry and wants to get back at him for demoting her. She tells him that she is mad at Victor but she is also concerned. She isn't surprised he stepped back in as CEO but she thinks that he is acting erratically because he keeps changing directions and that isn't like him. 

Nate tells her that he hasn't seen that but she knows her father better than he does. He also tells her that if she was thinking about doing something to get back at Victor he would try to talk her out of it. Nikki arrives and asks if Nate is joining them for dinner but he says he was just keeping Victoria company until she arrived. He leaves to go back to the office and Nikki asks her daughter how she's doing.

Nikki thinks Victoria must be very mad at Victor but Victoria surprises her by saying that it's more than that, that she's "concerned as hell." They sit down and Victoria lays out her concerns. She tells Nikki that she's surprised that she's not concerned as well and that she's starting to wonder if Victor is not capable of running his empire anymore.

Victoria goes into more detail about the decisions Victor has made that concern her and she can't believe her mother hasn't had the same doubts. Nikki reminds her that it's his company to run as he wants and asks her daughter how far she is planning on taking things. Victoria tells her mother that she's just venting but has real concerns about how this could affect her father's health. 

Nikki tries to reassure her, but Victoria is still worried, and she blames Adam for all of it. Nikki agrees with her on that. Victoria is worried that running Newman could be too much for Victor but Nikki promises to talk to him. She tells her daughter that if she sees even a hint of a health issue with Victor she will step in.

Y&R Recap Today

Victor oversees the removal of Victoria's portrait and the return of his in the CEO office at Newman Enterprises. He pours himself a drink and Nate enters the office. Victor sits behind his desk and asks if Nate has seen Victoria. Nate tells him that he has. Victor imagines they were both surprised by his decision but assures him that it wasn't a reflection on Victoria's work, he just felt like taking over again. 

Nate tells him that he built the company and can do what he wants with it. Victor hopes that Victoria will realize that he needs her to stay on to help him and Nate promises to do everything he can to smooth the transition. Victor thanks him and tells him to pour himself a drink. He tells Nate how Victoria worked her way up from the mailroom and asks if Nate thinks Victoria is planning any kind of retaliation and Nate tells him that he didn't hear her say anything like that. 

Victor asks if would tell him if she had and Nate tells him that he's putting him in an uncomfortable position and that it's not his place to get in the middle of this sort of thing. Victor tells him that as long as he's willing to smooth the waters between him and his daughter then they are good and Nate promises that they are on the same page as far as that goes. 

Y&R Recap Today

Adam is having a drink in the Jazz Room and thinking about his humbling conversation with Victor. He laughs out loud and Sally asks what the joke is. He tells her that there is no joke and he was just thinking about fights with his father over the years and she tells him that she knows what Victor just did to him. She gives him her sympathies over how he must be hurting. 

Adam tells her that he is actually glad it happened and Sally feels his head, checking for fever. He tells her that he's fine and that he's ready to be a grown-up. He invites her to join him for a drink, promising to not read into anything. She accepts his invitation and they agree to drink to a whole new era for both of them. 

As they talk Sally notes Adam sounding bitter and he tells her that the new Adam is a process that he is working on. She realizes that he had been drinking before she got there and convinces him to have dinner with her. Adam is surprised but agrees. Adam congratulates her on her new company and tells her that he has total faith she will succeed. He also talks more about his plans to work his way up from the bottom but Sally starts to have doubts about his sincerity. 

She tells him that if she needs to worry about him then he should tell her now. Adam reassures her that he is on a good path and they toast to it. After their toast, he asks her to tell him about her new business. She excitedly tells him how much she loves interior design and how inspired she's been and he's very happy for her. They both agree they feel reborn on their new paths. 

Adam asks if he can walk her to her door after they finish dinner and she agrees. Before they head up the stairs he thanks her for inviting him to dinner and tells her that he's missed his friend. She admits that she has missed his friendship too. When they get to her door, Adam impulsively kisses her and she kisses him back. He apologizes and says it was the champagne. They agree to pretend like it never happened and say goodnight.

Nikki waits for Victor at the ranch and happily greets him when he gets home. Nikki tells Victor that she wants them to take a nice long trip together before their new jobs pull them apart. She thinks they both need it and that it will give Victoria the time she needs to process everything. Nikki begs him to say yes.

Victoria goes back to the office and gets upset when she sees Victor's portrait rehung and hers removed. She texts Nate and asks him to come to her office. She looks at the portrait and thinks about the fight she had with Victor before telling her father that she doesn't deserve this. Nate comes in and she is clearly upset that he had drinks with her father. 

He tells her that he is trying to smooth things over and tells her that Victor asked if she is planning to try to keep him from coming back. Victoria thinks Nate told him that she was but he tells her that he protected her. He doesn't agree with her and thinks there is a better way to handle it though. Victoria is sorry to hear that because she hoped he would come around.
