Y&R Recap September 22, 2023: Billy Digs for Dirt

The Young and the Restless Recap for Friday, September 22, 2023:

Today on The Young and the Restless,  Jack interrogates Phyllis, Tucker reveals a dangerous plan, and Audra gives Kyle a reality check.

Y&R Recap Today

Jack is walking through Chancellor Park when Phyllis sees him and says hello. She tries to make small talk, but he just stares at her. She asks if this is going to be how it is between them from now on and he says that it is. Jack tells her that he has no interest in talking to her and says that the only thing they had left between them was his son was married to her daughter, but she managed to destroy that so now there is nothing left. 

Phyllis tries to tell him that she’s trying to change and that she’s working on it. Jack responds that he hasn’t seen any signs of that and she tells him that it can’t happen overnight. Jack tells her that he doesn’t wish her any ill will and that for Summer and Daniel's sake, he hopes that she really can change but that even if she does, it doesn’t change anything for him. He tells her that he said goodbye to her at her memorial service and as far as he’s concerned, she is still dead. 

After he walks away, Daniel walks up to Phyllis and she asks if he heard any of that. He tells her that he did and admits that it was harsh, but also tells her that she had it coming from Jack. Phyllis says that she understands that but that it still hurts her feelings. Daniel tells her that she needs something positive to focus on and asks about the job with Nick and Sharon. Phyllis tells him that there was a shake-up at Newman Media and she was collateral damage. 

Phyllis wonders when everyone will stop treating her like a pariah and realize that she’s trying to change and that she can change. Daniel reminds her that faking her own death ruined any credibility she might have had. Phyllis wonders if maybe she should’ve just stayed dead or if she should just leave town and start over somewhere else, Daniel shuts that down and tells her she can’t do that to him and Summer again. He then offers her a job with him at OmegaSphere. 

Phyllis is incredibly touched and he warns her that it’s not glamorous and she’ll have to work hard, but at least it will be an honest paycheck and he thinks she’ll be able to work out a repayment plan with the insurance company once she has steady pay coming in.  Phyllis remembers her conversation with Tucker and thanks Daniel for the job offer but tells him that she’s going to have to think about it. 

Before he leaves, Daniel tells her that she should also think about when she’s going to get out of her own way.  When she’s alone in the park, Phyllis thinks about Tucker's offer and realizes that she has no choice but to take it. She vows that this will be the last time she does anything like this before texting Tucker that she’s ready and on her way.

Audra is headed out of the Jazz room when Tucker comes in and asks if they can talk. She tells them she can give him five minutes and they sit down. Tucker tells her that he’s been thinking about their last conversation. Audrey responds that it was just an enjoyable hour between old friends, but nothing more than that. Tucker says that he doesn’t believe her but says that wasn’t what he was talking about. 

He talks to her about the possibility of her jumping ship from Newman Media and coming to work for him at Jabot. She tells him that she always likes to keep her options open but for now, she likes her job. She admits that her status there could change at any time and asks what job Tucker has in mind for her at Jabot.  He tells her that he hasn’t thought of specific job titles yet, but it would be something high-powered. 

She asks if she would be working under him and he tells her that he has no interest in running Jabot and would only consult. He just wants to take it away from Jack because he feels like Jack ruined any chance he had for a future with Ashley and he wants to punish him. Audra asks if he really thinks that they wouldn’t see that move coming and Tucker tells her that he’s sure that they do but he’s not worried about it because he has a secret weapon.  Andrea asks what his secret weapon is and Tucker tells her that it’s not a what, it’s a who, Billy Abbott. 

Y&R Recap Today

 

Billy approaches Adam at Society and asks if he can join him. Adam says no but Billy sits down anyway. Billy tells him that he heard that he lost his job again and that he understands how that feels. Adam asks what he wants and Billy says that Adam had claimed to have damaging information on Tucker and had said that he’d be willing to part with it for a price. Adam tells him that that’s true and Billy asks what his price is. 

Adam tells him that he heard that Tucker is back from Paris without Ashley and asks what happened. Billy tells them that they’re not sure yet but from what they’ve heard things went bad between Tucker and Ashley, both personally and professionally. Adam tells him that that could mean that Tucker is out for revenge and Billy tells him that that’s their theory. Adam asks what he’s willing to pay him for his information. 

Billy tells him that until he knows what the information is and how damaging it could be to Tucker he has no way of knowing what it’s worth. Adam tells Billy that he’s not sure that he even wants to make a deal with him. He tells him that he doesn’t want to get involved in anything shady because he’s trying to prove to his father said he’s turned over a new leaf and is willing to work his way up. Billy laughs at him and asks if Victor really bought that but Adam insists that he really means it.

Billy tells him to quit the posturing and tell him what his price is so they can move on. Adam tells him that he has to think about it. Billy reminds him that he came to him first and Adam tells him that things have changed since then. Billy gets annoyed and tells him that whatever information he has isn’t worth the hassle and gets up to leave. As Billy’s leaving, he runs into Tucker who tells him that he thought they were going to be meeting because he got a text from him. Billy tells him that it must’ve come from somebody else before walking out. 

Tucker approaches Adam and Adam is about to walk away but Tucker asks him to stay. Adam asks if he wants something and Tucker says "Always." Adam tells Tucker he heard about the breakdown of his marriage and asks him if he’s back in Genoa City for revenge. Tucker laughs and asks Adam why he would tell him anything he was planning after Adam tried to blackmail him. 

Adam corrects him and says that he was really only trying to blackmail Audra and tells him that he has no animosity towards him. Tucker tells Adam that he has no animosity towards him either and he doesn’t care about him, his family, or Newman Media. Tucker gets the text from Phyllis and tells Adam that he has to go. Adam watches him suspiciously as he leaves.

Kyle goes to the house and Diane sees him and comments on his casual dress. He admits that he got fired and she wonders if it's because of his fling with Audra. Diane wants Kyle to sit and talk with her about what happened and he’s very reluctant but she insists. She asks what his plans are now and he tells her that he’s not sure but says that there’s no rush and he may just spend some time on the beach with Harrison. 

Diane asks if there’s any chance that he come back to Jabot and Kyle reiterates to her that he’s only interested in coming back for the Co CEO position. Diane tells him that there’s a chance that that could happen. Jack gets home and finds out Kyle was fired. Kyle doesn’t want to talk about it but Jack wants to ask him one question and that is if he’s ready to come back to Jabot. Kyle tells him that depends on if Jack’s ready to give him the job of Co- CEO. 

Jack tells him that he’s not ready to let Billy go yet and Kyle says that they have nothing to talk about right now then and he has an office to clean out. He leaves and Jack tells Diane that they have a very stubborn son. Diane admits that she’s the one who suggested that Kyle may have a chance at becoming co CEO again. She tells Jack that she doesn’t think there’s any reason for him to wait on firing Billy especially when it means they can get their son back at Jabot.

Audra sees Billy walking into the GAC and says hello. He asks her what Tucker is up to and she asks why Tucker would tell her. Billy lists all the reasons Tucker would confide in her and says that Tucker has an agenda and he needs to know what it is. Audra tells him that he's probably right but it has nothing to do with her. Billy warns her to stay on the right side of things in case it all boils over and she tells him that she always does before walking away. 

Kyle goes to the GAC looking for Audra and sees her sitting at a table. He remembers their conversation where she fired him and ended their relationship before approaching her and telling her that her assistant told him where to find her. She asks how he’s been, and he tells her that he’s good. He asks if he can sit down without jeopardizing her job, and she tells him that they should talk. 

After he sits down, she asks if he blames her for what happened. Kyle tells her that he doesn’t blame her for firing him because knows that she had no choice after Nikki ordered her to do it. He is surprised she was able to turn off her feelings for him so quickly though. Audrey tells him that he’s talking like they had some storybook romance when in reality they were just two consenting adults enjoying good sex with each other. 

She tells him that he is not the love of her life and she is not the love of his because that is Summer. Kyle tells her again that it’s over between him and Summer, but Audrey doubts that is true. She tells him that their relationship was just about him, trying to hide how much Summer meant to him but if he digs deep he will realize how much he still loves her. 

Phyllis and Tucker both get to the GAC at the same time and run into Billy. Tucker goes upstairs and Phyllis goes to sit at the bar to cover. Once she sees Billy leave, she goes upstairs, unaware that Billy is actually watching her through the window. Phyllis goes to Tucker’s room and he asks if Billy saw her coming upstairs. She tells him that she stayed in the bar until he left and that she just wants to get this over with. Tucker asks if she’s ready to give him access to his financials and she says that she is, but first, he needs to transfer $1 million into her account.
